Is the Wennie Deck Dead?

Back

Back to the Main Page

Now, unlike the is magic dying article this time I am serious! The traditonal weenie deck is slowly dying due to the more modernish decks (such as sligh, 5-color, Turbo stasis ect.) this is due to a major change in the enviornment. It all started way back when right after 5th Edition became the type II basic set. The white weenie (which was probably the most powerful deck then) was severely weakened by the loss of Swords to Plowshares and Serra Angel. Of course black weenies still thrived (having lost the hippy mainly which wasn't part of the core of the deck, unlike the Serra). But then other decks were growing. These were due to new cards and new startegies. For example the Senor Stompy deck was born due to the Rouge Elephant and River Boa. And the sligh deck became more popular as traditional weenies became weaker. But enough history. is it still possible to succeed with a traditional white weenie? One of the decks that still requires much skill unlike the easyness of a Turbo Statsis or Sligh (BullRun disagres). But mainly it is becoming a lot easier to win with a good deck design than with good playing. Some decks still require a lot of skill though. The counter-post and the Neo-Geddon deck are both good examples. In conclusion, if the weenie is the dinosaur they they evoled into the sligh stompy kind of decks. Now will the weenies die like the dinos. Perhaps if exodus can bring some cards that have some relevance to weenie decks well then we'll have something. If not, weenies will ride in the sunset. And the sun don't give a damn weather your an Oscar Meyer or not.

Comments? I'll add the first five (if they are good) below. YES I AM TALKING TO YOU!
