Hello, Mike speaking. Don't worry I do not think magic will die but it is not doing so good (and besides I needed to get your attention). I am writing this because a disturbing trend I have noticed on the internet. More and more sites are popping up dedicated to selling or auctioning off cards. This is disturbing. Because when you start thinking of a card game but how much the cards are worth, it loses it's soul. Card prices are also very much inflated. Back about 5 years ago when Magic first appered no one kept cards locked up in cases or thought of them as worth anything. I once heard of a guy who traded a Black Lotus for a Hurloom Minotaur BECAUSE THE ART WAS BETTER! Can you imagine somebody doing that now? I think not. Inflated card prices will tumble soon too. With more and more people selling their old cards and more and more people buying new ones, eventually prices will fall. People should stop thinking about Magic as a bussiness and more as what it is: A GAME!
But it's not just money that is making magic into something bad. No interesting sets have come out in a long time. It's just that the R&D department is doing too good of a job on weeding out power cards. If they keep this up there will never again be a lightning bolt, Serra Angel, Winter Orb, Mox, Hypnotic Specter or Ivory Tower. (I might add that most of those cards were weeding out between 4th edition ,considered to be the Golden Age of Magic, and 5th Edition, when everyone started to sell their cards.) I think that the new sets have become, boring unimaginative and dull. Without power cards what is magic? just a bunch of people sitting at a table with a stack of cards that do similar things. There have been exceptions though. Rouge Elephant for example is an incredibly useful creature, and can take it's place among the Moxes and Serras of Dominaria. If you ahve any questions comments or even suggestions (please it REALLY does help.) email me. OK?
