The Spider Project: A Spider-Man Episode Guide

Well, I just had so much fun making an episode guide to Superman: The Animated Series that I just had to do one for Spider-Man! This, of course, is the Spider-Man cartoon that ran in the mid-90's. I compiled it the same way I compiled the Superman guide: I found a complete list of episode titles online, and wrote the plot synopses from memory. Fortunately, the list I found had the episodes in broadcast order, so I didn't have to juggle it around into the order I remember seeing them. And, for some reason, I made these plot synopses more detailed than the ones in the Superman guide, resulting in a longer guide. Anyway, enjoy it!

Season 1 (1993/1994)

Night Of The Lizard
The series kicks off with a retelling of the origin of the Lizard. We are presented with Dr. Curt Connors. Using experimental neogenic technology, he spliced lizard DNA with his own in the hopes of regrowing his lost arm. But, this has the side affect of turning him into that man-beast known as the Lizard. Can Spider-Man reverse the neogenic process and save his mentor? Can Spider-Man protect the Connor family from a rampaging Lizard? Boy, that's a lot for the first episode. (Favorite line: "Why do I have to go into the sewer? You'd never find the Fantastic Four in the sewer. Or the Avengers. Or the Defenders. Well, maybe the Hulk." -- Spider-Man, not really wanting to pursue the Lizard into the sewers.)

The Sting Of The Scorpion
J. Jonah Jamison, knowing that there has to be some kind of connection between Spider-Man and Peter Parker, has hired petty thug Mac Gargan to follow Peter. When Spider-Man uncovers this, Jamison has Farley Stillwell use neogenics to splice scorpion DNA into Gargan. This turns Gargan into the Scorpion, Jamison's champion to unmask Spider-Man. But the Scorpion soon goes on a rampage, and Spider-Man has to stop the Scorpion and rescue Jamison. (Trivia note: Oscar-winning actor Martin Landau did the voice of Mac Gargan/the Scorpion.)

The Spider-Slayer
Norman Osborne and his silent partner, the Kingpin, have hired robotics expert Spencer Smythe to build a robot to capture Spider-Man. But, the robot accidentally captures Flash Thompson, dressed as Spider-Man for a party. Can Spider-Man rescue Peter Parker's greatest nemesis?

The Return Of The Spider Slayers
With Spencer Smythe presumed dead, the Kingpin hires Smythe's son Alistair to construct all new, more powerful Spider Slayer robots. Things soon become one big slugfest between Spider-Man and a bunch of giant robots.

The Menace Of Mysterio
Special effects man Quentin Beck blames Spider-Man for ruining his career. So, Beck frames Spider-Man, and then presents himself as Mysterio, the new hero of the city. Can Spider-Man clear his name and unmask Mysterio for the villain he truly is?

Doctor Octopus: Armed and Dangerous
Dr. Otto Octavius had his funding cut by the Hardy foundation. When he tried to continue with his experiments on his own, an accident turned him into Dr. Octopus. Now, he has kidnaped Felicia Hardy, and is demanding a huge ransom so he can finish his work. Can Spider-Man rescue Felicia? (Trivia note: Efram Zimbalist Jr., the voice of Alfred on Batman, provides the voice for Dr. Octopus.)

The Alien Costume, Part 1
The Space Shuttle is returning to Earth with two unknown substances: Promethium X, and a strange black ooze. When the shuttle crash lands in New York, the Kingpin dispatches the Rhino to steal the Promethium X. Spider-Man goes off to rescue the shuttle crew, and winds up with the strange black ooze on his body. When Spider-Man wakes up the next morning, he finds the black ooze has become his black costume, and he sets out to recover the Promethium X. (Note: My favorite episode. The way the shuttle flies through the skyscrapers of New York before screeching to a halt on the Brooklyn Bridge is a beautiful scene.)

The Alien Costume, Part 2
Spider-Man has successfully recovered the Promethium X. So, to get it back, Kingpin dispatches the Shocker to kidnap Col. John Jamison (J.J.'s son and the shuttle captain), and demand the Promethium X as ransom. With some help from Dr. Conners, Spider-Man learns of his black costume's alien nature. Spider-Man goes off to rescue Col. Jamison, but doesn't like how the symbiot is giving him a real mean streak.

The Alien Costume, Part 3
"We are your poison, Spider-Man. We are Venom." With those words, Eddie Brock accepts the symbiot (seeing as to how Spider-Man rejected it at the end of Part 2) and commences stalking Peter Parker. Can Spider-Man defeat a foe that knows his true identity, has all his powers, and neutralizes his spider-sense? (Trivia note: Hank Azaria, the rising star and man behind many voices on The Simpsons, gives voice to Eddie Brock/Venom.)

Kraven The Hunter
Kraven the Hunter is in New York, and stalking Dr. Mariah Crawford. Can Spider-Man protect Dr. Crawford? Can he uncover the connection between Kraven and Dr. Crawford? (Note: I love how this episode ends. It's a direct homage to the Spider-Man cartoon of the 60's, ending the exact same way all those episodes ended.)

The Hobgoblin, Part 1
Norman Osborne seeks to end his partnership with the Kingpin, so he hires the Hobgoblin to assassinate the Kingpin. When Hobgoblin learns who his target is, he double-crosses Osborne, kidnaps Harry Osborne and sides with Kingpin. Oh, and Hobgoblin's kidnaping of Harry critically injured Aunt May, making Spider-Man thirsty for vengeance.

The Hobgoblin, Part 2
The Hobgoblin double-crosses the Kingpin, and seeks to become the new king of crime. So, Norman Osborne and Kingpin leak where Hobgoblin is holding Harry Osborne, and trick Spider-Man into taking care of the Hobgoblin.

Day Of The Chameleon
When a huge peace treaty is being signed in New York, Nick Fury fears that the world-renowned assassin the Chameleon may show up to end things. So, Fury enlists the aid of J. Jonah Jamison to set up a sting operation. Spider-Man overhears the plans for the sting, and heads out to catch the Chameleon. (Note: I love how this episode ends. It just animated in a very anime way.)

Season 2: Neogenic Nightmare (1994/1995 Note: With the second season, a trend began that would last the rest of the series: a multi-part plot line that took the whole season to tell)

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 1: The Insidious Six
The Crime Cartel is fed-up with Kingpin's failed attempts to stop Spider-Man. So, Kingpin gets Rhino, Shocker, Scorpion, Chameleon, Mysterio, and Dr. Octopus to be his Insidious Six, and sends them out to destroy Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Spider-Man is puzzled when his powers begin to come and go at random.

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 2: Battle Of The Insidious Six
The Insidious Six know there has to be some kind of connection between Spider-Man and Peter Parker. How else does Peter get those pictures? So, the Six hold Aunt May hostage. Also, Kingpin has captured his greatest rival, Silvermane. Can Spider-Man, with his powers having become unreliable, rescue Aunt May and Silvermane?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 3: Hydro-Man
Dr. Curt Conners says that the radioactive spider bite is causing Spider-Man to mutate out of control. But, Spider-Man can't deal with that right now. Mary Jane Watson's old boyfriend Morrie Bench has returned as the water controlling Hydro-Man, and is stalking Mary Jane. Can Spider-Man stop this super-powered stalker?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 4: The Mutant Agenda
Spider-Man, worried about his uncontrolled mutation, seeks out one of the world's leading expert on mutants: Professor Charles Xavier. The Professor sympathizes, but can offer no help. Beast, however, points Spider-Man in the direction of a Dr. Herbert Landon. Shortly after, Beast is captured by some thugs. Wolverine, convinced that Spider-Man is responsible, goes after Spider-Man. (Trivia note: The entire cast of the X-Men cartoon is on hand, doing their own voices. And, this has my favorite cliffhanger: Spider-Man and Wolverine slugging it out, while Hobgoblin prepares to blow them both away.)

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 5: Mutants' Revenge
It seems that Beast was captured by Herbert Landon, to be the guinea pig for Landon's mutation reversing formula. But, when Landon is exposed to the formula, he turns into a giant energy absorbing monster. Can Spider-Man and the X-Men stop this monster?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 6: Morbius
An accident involving a vampire bat, the Neogenic Recombinator, and a sample of Peter Parker's mutated blood turns Michael Morbius into a vampire. Can Spider-Man stop Morbius? Will Spider-man take the experimental cure for his mutation developed by Dr. Crawford?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 7: Enter The Punisher
Well, the experimental cure accelerates Spider-Man's mutation, causing him to sprout 4 extra arms! But the hunt for Morbius must continue. To make matters worse, Spider-Man gets blamed for Morbius' attacks, and the Punisher goes after Spider-Man.

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 8: Duel Of The Hunters
Dr. Crawford has perfected her cure, but Spider-Man has mutated into the completely feral Man-Spider. To administer the cure, Dr. Crawford calls upon her boyfriend, the now-reformed Kraven, to track down the Man-Spider. But who'll reach Man-Spider first: The Punisher, still bent on eliminating Spider-Man, or Kraven with the cure?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 9: Blade The Vampire Hunter
Well, the cure worked, albeit a temporary measure. Morbius' vampire activities has attracted the attention of Blade, who has made Morbius his next target. Can Spider-Man save Morbius from Blade? (Note: I don't know who did the voice of Blade, but he does a great Wesley Snipes impersonation. Star Trek connection: Malcolm McDowell, Dr. Soran in Star Trek Generations, does the voice of Whistler.)

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 10: The Immortal Vampire
Morbius has stolen the Neogenic Recombinator, and is bent on creating a race of super-vampires. He has also kidnaped Felicia Hardy, and is intent on making her his vampire queen. Can Blade and Spider-Man put aside their differences to stop Morbius and save Felicia?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 11: Tablet Of Time
The ancient Tablet of Time is uncovered, and is said to grant immortality. Dr. Connors' wants to study it, believing that it contains a neogenic secret that will cure him of the Lizard, and Spider-Man of his uncontrolled mutation. But, Silvermane wants the secrets of immortality, and dispatches Tombstone and Hammerhead to steal the tablet.

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 12: Ravages Of Time
Silvermane also kidnaps Dr. Connors to perform the age-reversing procedure. But, the stress of the kidnaping makes Dr. Connors mutate into the Lizard. Can Spider-Man recover the Tablet of Time and stop the Lizard once again?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 13: Shriek Of The Vulture
Adrian Tooms is old and tired. To eliminate those who would destroy his company, he dons a suit that makes him fly and special youth-sapping talons (developed by reverse-engineering the Tablet of Time) to become the Vulture. Can Spider-Man stop the Vulture while still fighting his own impending mutation?

Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 14: The Final Nightmare
The Vulture steals Spider-Man's youth, turning Spider-Man into a withered old man. But, the mutation factor in Spider-Man's blood causes the Vulture to randomly turn into the Man-Spider! Plus, the Scorpion breaks Farley Stillwell out of jail to reverse his own mutation. Before long, Vulture, Scorpion, and Spider-Man all turn to Dr. Conners for help, and Dr. Conners develops a way to defeat the Vulture and cure Spider-Man of his mutation.

Season 3: Sins Of The Father (1995/1996)

Sins Of The Father Chapter 1: Doctor Strange
Mary Jane Watson is abducted by a strange cult led by the evil Baron Mordo. To rescue her, Spider-Man must team-up with the mater of the mystic arts, Dr. Strange! (Star Trek Connection: George Takei, Sulu of the original series, gave voice to Wong, Dr. Strange's sidekick.)

Sins Of The Father Chapter 2 : Make A Wish
Peter Parker has had it with being Spider-Man. He's about to hang up his mask, when the mysterious Madame Web appears, and directs him to a dying child who's last wish is to meet Spider-Man. There, Spider-Man recounts to Tina (the dying girl) his origin. (Note: They waited until the third season to do a "Spider-Man's origin" story because the writers were told to wait until the movie came out, but they couldn't wait anymore. Favorite exchange:
Tina>> My friend Jimmy says that you're the last person from a dying planet, and you were put on a rocket and sent here when you were just a baby!
Spider-Man>> I think Jimmy has me confused with someone else.)

Sins Of The Father Chapter 3: Attack Of The Octo-Bot
Spider-Man took Tina for some web-swinging, but Spider-Man was attacked by Dr. Octopus and his latest invention, a robot with tentacles like his. Now, Dr. Octopus has convinced an amnesic Spider-Man that they are partners. Can Tina find help and make Spider-Man remember the hero he is?

Sins Of The Father Chapter 4: Enter The Green Goblin
An accident with some experimental nerve gas turns Norman Osborne into the Green Goblin. The Green Goblin then goes about kidnaping the Kingpin, J. Jonah Jamison, and everyone else whose made Norman Osborne's life miserable. Can Spider-Man save these people and stop the Green Goblin?

Sins Of The Father Chapter 5: Rocket Racer
A bright young kid in a science class Peter Parker teaches swipes some technology from a super-villain, and goes off to embark on a life of crime. Can Spider-Man stop him from going down the wrong path? Can Spider-Man save him from the super-villains he stole from?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 6: Framed
Peter Parker is on trial for treason! As Peter Parker is being led from the courthouse to prison he's rescued by...Spider-Man? Turns out that Peter is the patsy for the Kingpin's and Chameleon's latest plot. In order to clear his name, Peter Parker must rely on his defense attorney, Matt Murdoch, and the costumed crime-fighter known as Daredevil. (Note: I love the scene at Murdoch's apartment, where Matt Murdoch and Peter Parker are thinking the exact same thing: "Great! Now while he sleeps, I can go out as my costumed alter-ego, and gather evidence to clear me/Peter Parker!")

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 7: The Man Without Fear
Spider-Man and Daredevil join forces to gather evidence to clear Peter Parker and take down the Kingpin. Meanwhile, Daredevil tells Spider-Man the Kingpin's true identity. (Up to this point, Spider-Man had never met the Kingpin face-to-face, so he was a bit stunned to learn that the Kingpin is Wilson Fisk.) (Note: This is my favorite team-up episode. Daredevil deserves his own cartoon.)

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 8: The Ultimate Slayer
Kingpin is fed up with Alistair Smythe's failed attempts to kill Spider-Man. So, Kingpin hires Herbert Landon to be his new right-hand man, and Landon turns Smythe into a genetically enhanced, cybernetic spider slayer. Can Spider-Man reach Smythe, trapped inside this new body?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 9: Tombstone
Joe Robertson is distressed when his son begins getting involved in a gang led by Tombstone. Also, seems that Tombstone and Robertson have some kind of connection. Can Spider-Man uncover this connection, and save Joe and his son?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 10: Venom Returns
Baron Mordo seeks to release his master Dormamu. But, in order to do so, he needs the new time dilation accelerator (an inter-dimensional portal generator) developed by Stark Enterprises. To steal this device, Mordo reunites Eddie Brock with the Venom symbiot. Can Spider-Man and War Machine stop Venom from stealing the time dilation accelerator?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 11: Carnage
Venom is too consumed with his hatred for Spider-Man to be an effective servant, so Mordo gives a second symbiont to Brock's cell-mate, Cledus Kassidy. Kassidy becomes Carnage, and swipes the time dilation accelerator and Brock's sweetheart. Stark Enterprises sends Iron Man to recover the accelerator. Venom puts aside his hatred of Spider-Man to save his sweetheart. Can the combined might of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Venom stop Carnage and Dormamu?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 12: The Spot
Dr. Jonathan Ohm, the inventor of the time dilation accelerator, finds a new financial backer in the form of Wilson Fisk. An accident with the accelerator gives Ohm the power to open and close inter-dimensional portals at will. Tired of always having to submit to people who want his technology, Dr. Ohm becomes the Spot, and uses his newfound power to steal his research money. Can Spider-Man stop this misguided scientist?

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 13: Goblin War
The Hobgoblin is after the time dilation accelerator, knowing it would be a great asset to his criminal empire. He goes to the Kingpin for help. Kingpin knows that Norman Osborne knows Hobgoblin's true identity, and tries to force the information out of Osborne. All this stress turns Osborne back into the Green Goblin, and soon both goblins are duking it out for control of the accelerator. Can Spider-Man stop this goblin war? And what's the connection between the Hobgoblin and Felicia Hardy's fiancee, Jason Macendale? (Favorite line: "I'm like a black cat, bringing bad luck to everyone who crosses my path." -- Felicia Hardy. Is that great foreshadowing or what?)

Sins Of The Father, Chapter 14: Turning Point
The Green Goblin, using the time dilation accelerator, uncovers that Spider-Man is Peter Parker. He then uses this information to torment his greatest enemy. It's not long before the Green Goblin kidnaps Mary Jane Watson and heads for the George Washington Bridge. I think you know where this is going. (Note: In case I didn't make it obvious, this episode is based on the classic "death of Gwen Stacey" story. Two major changes: 1) They used Mary Jane instead of Gwen Stacey because they didn't want to confuse young viewers with a character that had been dead in the comics for 20 years. 2) Since you can't kill people in cartoons, we have Mary Jane and the Green Goblin getting sucked into an inter-dimensional limbo.)

Season 4: Partners In Dangers (1996/1997)

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 1: Guilty
Spider-Man is consumed with grief over the disappearance of Mary Jane. But, Joe Robertson is framed as a criminal mastermind! To get to the bottom of this, J. Jonah Jamison relies on his old investigative reporter skills, and Spider-Man keeps a watchful eye on J. Jonah Jamison.

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 2: The Cat
Dr. Octopus uncovers that Felicia Hardy's father was John Hardeski, a.k.a. the Cat, a renowned thief. Dr. Octopus wants to use this information to blackmail the Hardy family, but is stopped by the Kingpin. It turns out that John Hardeski is still alive, and being held in S.H.E.I.L.D.'s maximum security prison. Kingpin plans to break him out, but for what purpose?

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 3: The Black Cat
It turns out that Hardeski is the only man still alive who knows the super-soldier formula; the formula that created Captain America. Kingpin kidnaps Felicia Hardy to extort the formula from Hardeski. Kingpin tests the formula on Felicia, turning her into the Black Cat. But, Black Cat turns on Kingpin, and gets Spider-Man to help her rescue her father.

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 4: The Return Of Kraven
Kraven returns to town, in his old feral form, just as mysterious attacks on people performed by a feral creature break out. Is Kraven really the one responsible? Where's Dr. Crawford in all this? And, the Black Cat implores Spider-Man that they become partners.

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 5: Partners
Spider-Man accepts Black Cat as his partner, but it's short-lived, as Black Cat is kidnaped by Alistair Smythe. Seems that Silvermane (Smythe's new employer) is trapped in the body of a baby (as a result of Ravages Of Time), and wants to use neogenic technology to regain his old body. So, Smythe needs to study a neogenically altered person. Smythe will release Black Cat if Spider-Man delivers either the Scorpion or the Vulture (who've been in hiding since The Final Nightmare). (Note: Starting with this episode, Richard Moll (the voice of Two-Face on Batman) takes over as the voice of Scorpion).

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 6: The Awakening
Deborah Whitman finds the dormant body of Morbius. She thinks she can reverse his mutation, but accidentally releases him to go on a rampage again. Can Black Cat bring herself to destroy the man she once loved?

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 7: The Vampire Queen
The Vampire Queen seeks out Morbius, so she can use the Neogenic Recombinator to create a race of super-vampires. Morbius, no longer wanting to be evil, teams-up with Spider-Man and Black Cat to defeat the Vampire Queen. But, just as the Queen is about to die, Blade bursts in! Turns out the Vampire Queen is his mother! Can the combined forces of Spider-Man, Blade, Black Cat, and Morbius stop the Vampire Queen? (Star Trek connection: Nichelle Nichols, Uhura of the original series, does the voice of the vampire queen. And just so you know, this episode ends with Black Cat and Morbius joining Blade as vampire hunters.)

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 8: The Return Of The Green Goblin
Harry Osborne is being tormented by his father, thanks to some kind of telepathic connection between the two. Through this link, Harry is driven by his father to become the new Green Goblin. And, to make matters worse, the Punisher has begun searching for Mary Jane Watson, and knows that the Green Goblin, Spider-Man, and Peter Parker are all connected to her disappearance somehow.... (Note: This episode ends with Mary Jane mysteriously reappearing)

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 9: The Haunting Of Mary Jane Watson
A few weeks go by after Mary Jane's return, and she gets a part in a movie! But, they are filming at the studio that was once the haunt of Mysterio, and when Mysterio turns up, Mary Jane disappears. Can Spider-Man trust Mysterio when he says that he's not to blame? Who's really responsible? (Note: In order to keep with comic continuity, this episode ends with Mysterio's (surprisingly noble) death.)

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 10: The Lizard King
Spider-Man reveals his true identity to Mary Jane, and proposes marriage. She accepts, and they go to ask Dr. Conners to give her away at the wedding. But, before he can answer, a group of mutant lizards break in and call Dr. Conners their "creator." With Spider-Man and the Lizard abducted by this race of lizard-people, it's up to Mary Jane, Deborah Whitman, and Mrs. Conners to attempt a rescue.

Partners In Dangers, Chapter 11: The Prowler
Peter Parker returns home one day to come face to face with the Prowler. The Prowler reveals himself to be Hobie Brown, and recounts how he became the Prowler, and that he now has a life-or-death meeting with the Kingpin. The Prowler wants Peter Parker to contact Spider-Man to help him get out of his pact with the Kingpin. Will Spider-Man help? (Star Trek connection: Tim Russ, Tuvok from Voyager, does the voice of Hobie Brown/The Prowler.)

Season 5 (1997/1998)

The Wedding
At long last, the wedding day has come for Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson! But, when word gets back to Harry Osborne, he goes insane with jealousy, breaks out of his mental hospital, and once again dons the mask of the Green Goblin. With Scorpion and some new Spider Slayers by Alistair Smythe in tow, he goes off to crash a wedding. Fortunately, Black Cat shows up to help Spider-Man save the day.

Six Forgotten Warriors
The Kingpin wants to get his hands on an ancient Nazi device simply called "the ultimate weapon." To do this, he re-unites the Insidious Six, with the Vulture replacing the now-dead Mysterio. Also, a mysterious man turns up at the Parker residence, and Peter Parker learns that his parents were spies, and died as traitors. Spider-Man then sets out to clear his parents' names.

Six Forgotten Warriors, Chapter 2: Unclaimed Legacy
The quest to clear his parents' name leads Spider-Man to Moscow, where Kingpin and the Six are hunting down the scientists who helped develop "the ultimate weapon." And what does Silver Sable have to do with it all?

Six Forgotten Warriors, Chapter 3: Secrets Of The Six
With the scientists captured, Kingpin begins hunting down the last 5 remaining "super-soldiers;" people given super-powers by the U.S. Government to do battle with the Nazi threat. They possess the keys to the vault where "the ultimate weapon" lay hidden. Can Spider-Man save the 5 remaining soldiers?

Six Forgotten Warriors, Chapter 4: The Six Fight Again
The last five super-soldiers come out of retirement, to stop "the ultimate weapon" from once again falling into the wrong hands. Silver Sable's involvement is finally revealed! Kingpin is betrayed by a member of the Insidious Six! And, from out of a time-warp comes the ultimate Nazi spy, the Red Skull, and the sixth super-soldier, Captain America!

Six Forgotten Warriors, Chapter 5: The Price Of Heroism
The Red Skull takes his son (who was working with Kingpin's betrayer) and turns him into the ultimate weapon -- Electro! Electro goes on a rampage about the city, before coming to the U.N. and demanding to be made supreme ruler of Earth. The 5 super-soldiers go off to save the U.N., while Spider-Man and Captain America frantically try to come up with a plan to stop Electro. (Favorite line: "Do you mean to tell me that the ultimate weapon is just another super powered nut in a costume?" -- Kingpin, upon meeting Electro. Also, you've got to love it when Electro single-handedly destroys S.H.I.E.L.D.)

The Return Of Hydro-Man, Part 1
With that Six Forgotten Warriors business behind him, Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson finally go off on their honeymoon. But, Hydro-Man, thought to be dead, bursts in, and kidnaps Mary Jane! Can Spider-Man, and the recently returned to town Black Cat, save Mary Jane?

The Return Of Hydro-Man, Part 2
Well, Mary Jane was found, but everyone is astonished when she begins manifesting powers like Hydro-Man's! Soon, she is abducted again, and Spider-Man follows Hydro-Man and Mary Jane to a scientist who specializes in cloning....

Secret Wars, Chapter 1: Arrival
Before Spider-Man can recover from the fact that his wife was a clone, he is abducted by a being called the Beyonder, who wants to learn the concepts of good and evil. So, on an isolated planet, the Beyonder brings the Lizard, Alistair Smythe, Dr. Octopus, Dr. Doom, and the Red Skull. The Beyonder then tells Spider-Man that Spider-Man is a general, and must gather an army of heroes to stop these evil forces. For his army, Spider-Man chooses Iron Man, Storm, Captain America, and the Fantastic Four. Can they band together and work as a team? (Trivia note: originally, Spider-Man was going to summon forth the entire X-Men and the Hulk! But, the entire X-Men got left out because the producers couldn't afford to get the whole voice cast of X-Men again. They had to leave out Hulk, because the Hulk cartoon just began running on a rival network, and too many legal issues came into play. So, we only got one X-Person, and Curt Conners trapped in the Lizard's body.)

Secret Wars, Chapter 2: The Gauntlet Of The Red Skull
Spider-Man, feeling the weight of leadership heavy upon his shoulders, decides to add Black Cat to his army of heroes. With this new addition to the team, our heroes go off to do battle with the alliance between Red Skull, Dr. Octopus, and Alistair Smythe!

Secret Wars, Chapter 3: Doom
Our heroes now turn their attention to defeating Dr. Doom. But, Dr. Doom ambushes them, and kidnaps the Thing. When they catch up with Dr. Doom, we find that Doom has developed technology to turn the Thing into Ben Grimm and back again! But, Dr. Doom soon reveals his most evil plot: using this technology to steal the Beyonder's powers! Can Spider-Man stop an omnipotent Dr. Doom?

Spider Wars, Chapter 1: I Really, Really Hate Clones
The Beyonder now takes Spider-Man to an alternate dimension, where Spider-Man encounters...5 other Spider-Men! Scarlet Spider then recounts the story how in his home dimension, Spider-Man was cloned. This drove Spider-Man to a life of crime, where he started working with the Kingpin, and eventually bonded with the Carnage symbiot to become Spider-Carnage. Now, Spider-Carnage is about to connect a bomb and time dilation accelerator into a weapon powerful enough to destroy all of reality. This team of Spider-Men was recruited by the Beyonder from many alternate dimensions to stop Spider-Carnage. Can these Spider-Men save all of reality? (Note: you've got to hand it to Christopher Daniel Barnes, the actor who did the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Here, he does the voices of 7 Spider-Men, and manages to make each one distinct. And you've got to love that title! I think it describes most Spider-Fans opinion of the whole "clone saga.")

Spider Wars, Chapter 2: Farewell, Spider-Man
The series ender! Our Spider-Men have stopped Spider-Carnage, but not before Spider-Carnage escaped to another dimension. Spider-Man chases Spider-Carnage to a dimension where everything went right for Peter Parker: J. Jonah Jamison likes Spider-Man, Peter Parker is a multi-billionaire engaged to Gwen Stacy, and Uncle Ben still lives. Can Spider-Man stop Spider-Carnage and save this dimension? (Note: That's Stan Lee doing his own voice at the end of the episode when, on a lark, the Beyonder sends Spider-Man to our dimension, so Spider-Man can meet his creator.)
