              a leader among men?

What would happen if I were cruel?
If I created
        chaotic suffering,
                        or worse, ignored an agonizing horror
        caused by the snap
of my own softly manicured fingertips?

What would happen if I loosed the anguish of the ages,
            unleashed tremendous torrents
of spastic spasming pain?

If I set forth to extinguish all hope,
         love, salvation and mercy,
                       tenderness, compassion and joy?

What would happen if I chose
         - of my own free will -
                     to envelope humankind in hideous grief and woe,
        misery, torment and wretchedness?

I'm asking.
What would happen if I were?
                       Would you - could you -
           take my life?
