batter up!

A challenge seen and taken up
pondered over a cooling cup
that coffee may help you think
so up it goes for another drink

He then sits back in comfort
knowing this is his sport
these pictures have been scouted
recognizing the curves they've touted

so how to approach the bag today
in back of the mind to self he says
maybe like a young playful pup
I'll quickly respond to "batter up"

Now it doesn't matter what they shout
when in the box you don't look about
focus is just on one thing
the pitch then swing

after the game deep in the dark
you may have hit it out of the park
or you may be holding back a pout
for everyone sometimes does strike out.

I notice now that my cup's gone empty
my head is spinning cause its got plenty
the pup did his thing today at the plate
tomorrow who know's, you just have to wait
