CAMEL RACING PROTOCOL

Racetracks nationwide usually schedule camel races on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during the season, which begins in late October and ends in early April. Two races are held daily: the morning race begins around 7:30, and the afternoon race starts around 2:30.

The distance for each race varies from four kilometers to 10 kilometers. The number of camels participating in any event also varies from as few as 15 to around 70. In major races, the number often exceeds 70 camels.

Admission is free. Spectators are encouraged to dress casually and comfortably. They also are urged to bring binoculars to better view the race from the stadium. However, cameras are not permitted at any racetrack. Most racetracks also serve light refreshments and beverages.

Huge and colorful festivals are organized in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain at the end of each racing season. Their Highnesses, the sheikhs, and their families, as well as invited dignitaries and foreign guests usually attend the festivals.
