The camel moves at four speeds, but its speed reduces as its distance increases. During the first
kilometers of a race, the camel's speed reaches 65 kilometers an hour. However, its speed will gradually reduce. A female camel can maintain a steady speed of up to 40
kilometers an hour, and has a better chance of winning a race.
Running stages are as follows :
Al Rakd or Al Robaan: Camels vary in their strength to complete long-distance running. The animal is almost in a jumping mode, moving its legs as quickly as possible.
Al Dali: This speed is less than Rakd or Rooban. At this speed, the camel can run for a longer period. The camel extends its legs in opposite directions.
Al Dhaeef or Al Darham: This speed is less than Al Dali is. Most camels can continue running at this race for long distances. Some breeders also refer to this speed as Al Motajameda. The distance a camel can cover in this running stage differs according to its ability.
Al Tahzee or Al Hazeel: This is the lowest recorded camel speed. The animal may continue walking for an entire day, and at a great distance.
