ABOUT PROTECTORS

(as related by Harold):

"Protectors started several years after I became a Space Seeker. We had all tried running various games, most notably in the Pleer setting, but had mainly stuck to Dan's game of Space Seekers for this group. I had just gone back to reading some old comic books of mine (after cleaning my stuff up a bit and finding the comics!), particularly The first 25 issues or so of the new Legion of Super Heroes. I was struck again by how well they had worked "super" abilities into a well-developed far future setting, and was inspired to try something lke that in a game. I tried a couple of variations with Fred, but none of them got off the ground until I thought of placing the game in the far future of the Space Seekers setting.

"My mind raced: 'What would some of the long-term consequences of the present Space Seeker activites be to the far future?' I quickly drew up a plan. It was obvious to me that the Space Seekers were too divided and chaotic to be a lasting force in the universe (this was before the reconciliation with the Space Avengers, and Darkflite was still a clear memory for us all)...and besides, I didn't want to run a regular Space Seekers game. I was toying with the idea of super powers, after all.

"I had always been intrigued by the Star Knights, which Steve had created years before as Space Seeker III to work as a hidden force, maintaining universal order behind the scenes. Well, if we got rid of the Space Seekers and the Space Avengers were similarly vanquished, who would be left to step in and tke control? Well, I ended up writing a very long history of what happened after the Space Seekers broke out into all-out war with each other, and after many years of chaos, the Star Knights modified their organization to be an overt force for order in the galaxy, if not the universe.

"I liked the idea of having the Space Seekers be legends even to this far in the future, so my first session (with Fred, of course) involved a bunch of Star Knight Expeditionary Forcers exploring a "Seeker Relic" ship in the hopes of salvaging the possibly superior yet ancient technology. On that day, the White One was born and the Protectors began in earnest..."
