Our Heroes' Heroes

This list of the Yankees and their comic book heroes was taken from 'Diamond Heroes', a special section in the star ledger.

You wonder who our Yankees look up to? Well, for David Cone and Joe Girardi, they've got an eye of awe for Spidey. Tino Martinez is an Aquaman fan, and the other hot corner is a SuperFriends fan as well. The legion of superman fans is made up of Chuck Knoblauch, Ramiro Mendoza, El Duque, and Luis Sojo (he reminds him of his dad...aint that cute?). Chad Curtis goes even further, honoring his schoolteacher father, Ted, as his greatest hero.

Shane Spencer and Bernie Williams both are fans of The Flash, although Bernie's speed comes the closest of the two. Rivera's fave is the Green Hornet, and Pettitte's is Batman, although he smilingly admits that's because it's his son, Josh's, favorite. It makes sense that the Ultrapitcher, Roger Clemmens, has a favorite superhero in Ultraman.

Ledee's superhero is He-Man, and Jeter's the Incredible Hulk ( now's the time to make an 'incredible hunk' comment but I ain't gonna do it ). Irabu's favorite is a Japanese hero, Dragonball Z. Who the heck is that, you might ask? I have no clue.

Chili Davis admires the Silver Surfer, and the Strawberry picks real life Superhero Willie Mays. Stanton's favorite is Wile E Coyote. Nelson goes for Captain America, while Paulie O'Neill picks Scooby Doo (I love that, don't you?).

Well, that's it!
