Comments: The “proud” fat naked white men represent the Church in America. The emaciated body represents the suffering church in other parts of the world. While we in the west enjoy or channel 40’s and Christian conferences, there are Christians who are sacrificing their lives for those who don’t know God. This emaciated body also represents the churches spiritual condition. Along with that I believe that it is revealing my emotional state and the contempt of how I see the “White” society for how they treated the Japanese Americans during WWII. Through how I was brought up, though never told of the suffering and pain of internment camps and loss of dignity and income, my folks transferred that bitterness onto me. I am still trying to figure out how that happened. But my paintings reveal a lot about myself and I need to face the pain in order to be healed.
