BILLERICA - Michael J. Harty, 52, a certified scuba diver, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 9, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Dennett) Harty.

Born in Grand Forks, N.D., on Nov. 20, 1950, he was a son of the late John and Marion (Nelson) Harty. He had lived in North Dakota before moving to Billerica 20 years ago.

Mr. Harty attended the University of North Dakota on full scholarship, and had been the director of customer engineering at Telica Corp. in Marlboro for the past four years.

Mr. Harty was an avid reader, and enjoyed photography, computers, boating and motorcycles.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Michael and Meaghan Harty, both of Billerica; two stepsons, Todd Johnson of Ayer and Reid Johnson of Billerica; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Marcia Harty of O'Fallon, Ill.; a sister and brother-in-law, Marylynn and Roger Johnson of Moorhead, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews
