F.A.Q.
Who
are we?
The Foam Swordsmen Association (FSA) is a Montreal-based organisation whose
goal is to provide the most exciting foam swordfights this side of the Atlantic.
We hold events every few weeks, which also serve as a platform to determine
the ultimate foam swordsmen of the new millenium.
How
do we fight?
Foam swords, hence the name. Instead of using the more expensive versions
of latex swords (which cost in excess of 200 dollars), we use home-made PVC
swords, surrounded by insulating foam and duct tape. Do not worry for our
fighters, these swords are perfectly safe, especially since precautions are
always being taken.
What are the rules for these fights?
Just check the rules section for information on this. There are indeed specific
rules in foam fights that must be followed. Failure to do so results in severe
penalties for the fighter.
Don't those swords hurt when they hit?
As mentioned before, as long as the foam padding hasn't died, each hit is
perfectly safe. However, additional protection is taken by most, as gloves
are mendatory and a mask is recommended.
How old are we?
The founders of the Foam Swordsmen Association were 19 when the organisation
was formed (we are born in 1984). However, fighters can be of all ages, race
and gender.
How
to get more information?
Give us a shout via e-mail. If you want to participate by joining the association
and you live in the Montreal area, don't be shy.
Is this a serious association?
In a word, yes. The FSA is not some joke. We take this sport very seriously
and believe that we will one day overcome curling and lawn bowling to become
a top 10 sport in Canada.
Can I link the FSA to my site?
Sure, go ahead. It would be appreciated if you would contact us about it beforehand,
however.
