History

The Loyale Guild of St. Erasmus was founded in 1998 by Herr Malachias von Morgenstern of West Kingdom and is the Nautical Guild for the Known World Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  Our function within the society is to bring together the entire mariner population (or those who would be mariners) to learn about and participate in period nautical arts and sciences and to portray pre-seventeenth century mariners in a proud and accurate manner.

From an on-line discussion group, joined by members of Nova Roma and the Guild of Nefarious Mariners, St. Erasmus has grown to an active guild, participating in many kingdoms around the world.  They present nautical track classes at collegiums and Arts and Sciences events, sponsor SCA events and participate in non-SCA historical shipbuilding projects.

Membership

Membership in St. Erasmus is as easy as sending an e-mail.  There are no dues or membership fees.  You need not be a member of the SCA, although if you wish to participate fully in the Guild activities you will find events less expensive if you are an SCA member.  SCA members are recognized in their Kingdoms and Principalities with awards, such a Awards of Arms and Letters of Marque.  Prizes for service and nautical arts and sciences are also rewarded.
