A Loyal Dog and An Old Sweet Hymn
Dear God, Precious Lord, The Great I Am,
This is your humble servant, Cheyenne.
You know I love You and my owner dearly,
But lately, Sir, I have grown very weary.
But still, I accept this mission of mine.
And I know that since the very dawn of time,
At Your great and awesome bended knee,
Dogs have learned their sacred destiny.
And I know in Your great, mighty plan
We were to be a mirror for man:
As we followed them; to You, they were to do the same.
And accordingly, Adam gave to us our honored name.
But somewhere in the course of history,
To man, our name became a mystery.
Humans forgot dogs were created to teach
How to You they should approach and reach:
With love complete and obedience blind,
With a humble stance and an ever loyal heart.
But, alas, man forgot our roles in time,
And made it harder for us to do our part.

Just yesterday, while my master brushed my hair,
I heard "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" in the air.
I knew the plan: A Loyal Dog and An Old Sweet Hymn!
I knew you had pitched in to help me try to teach her again.
When she arose, to my little feet I sprang.
I stayed at her heels even while she sang.
I followed her here and I followed her there.
I promise, I followed her everywhere.
I followed like a shadow upstairs and down.
All day long, I followed her round and round.
Finally when she sat, at her feet I thought I might nap.
But within a few minutes, back to her feet she did snap.
And I again followed ever close behind
From room to room for something she could not find.
Lord, I don't know if she will ever see
This is the way she should follow Thee.
So, Sir, please, if she doesn't get it real soon,
Would You kindly consider changing the tune--
Maybe to "Just As I Am"?
                Your faithful servant, Cheyenne.
