Although only in his 8th NHL season, Bryan McCabe brought a distinguished hockey rusume when he joined the Maple Leafs. Consistency and leadership, displayed at only 22 years of age, prompted the Islanders to name Bryan McCabe assistant captain as a rookie, and team captain in 1997. Bryan has emerged as a true leader with his physical plays and strong work ethics. Other phenomenal qualities which Bryan possesses are his booming point shot abd strong skating skills. Bryan's ability to play the puck and intimidate in his own end has established McCabe as an upper-tier defenceman.

The Maple Leafs acquired the offensive-minded McCabe just before the 2000-01 Regular season. In just his first season with the leafs, he contributed the second hightest point total for toronto blue liners, and his plus-16 was tops on the club. Bryan " The Can-Opener" McCabe, the Leafs best hitter is always a threat to score from the opponents blueline -- 17 goals in 2001-02 season. Although he's scoring less this campaign. McCabe says" maybe I'm not lighting up the scoreboard, but there are other aspects to my game"-- so true...

<< Preseason projected role: McCabe should again play the most minutes along the Maple Leafs blueline in 2002-03. He's clearly the team's No. 1 rearguard.
<< Assets: Is extremely aggressive in the defensive zone. Has a good shot from the point. Knows when to pinch in from the back end. Can log an abundance of minutes.
<< Flaws: Has cut down on his propensity to make mistakes in the defensive zone but still needs more work in that department. =(
<< Career potential: McCabe's finally fulfilling his potential in Toronto. He's now a major part of the team's nucleus and could significantly boost his point totals in the coming years.

The Leafs acquired Bryan McCabe from chiago on October 2, 2000 in exchange for holdout defenceman Alexander Karpotsev and Toronto's fourth round pick in the 2001 Entry Draft. Before joining the Leafs, Bryan played dependable defence for the Blackhawks, Canucks and Islanders. Bryan scored 23 points as a rookie with the Islanders and followed up is rookie campaign by recording more goals and points. Bryan also led Brandon Wheat Kings to WHL Championship and Memorial victories in 1985.

Bryan McCabe's first internationl competition came as a member of the Canadian National Junior team at the 1994 World Junior Championships. The team won Gold Medal. Bryan then returned to the World Junior Championships in 1995, where he played with current Leafs teammate Darcy Tucker and won another Gold Medal. Bryan was named the tournament's top defenceman, finishing third in team scoring with 12 points. Bryan also represented Canada at both the 1997 and 1998 World Championships.
