Kryptonite
Quite literally, the radioactive remains of Krypton. Kryptonite is the ore form of the super actinide kryptonium, a transuranic element, possibly having an atomic number of 126. Humans exposed to kryptonite receive 75 rems of radiation per hour. Formed by increasing internal pressures in the planet Krypton that led to the planet's explosive death, Kryptonite radiation is deadly to Clark Kent/Superman poisoning the bloodstream and causing intense pain and loss of his superpowers, and likely death if exposed for several hours. Later, generations of Kent would only lose their powers or suffer minor pain from Kryptonite A small two-pound fragment was lodged in the rocket that carried Clark to Earth. This piece was found by a member of the U.S. Government trying to kill Clark Kent/Superman. Later, more kryptonite was found and a young Adam Kelly found a way turn to Kryptonite into a powerful energy source that replaced all others, even oil. This discovery is what made Adam a incredibly rich and powerful man and is what started AK Corp. Today, Laser weapons, Hyper Drive, Sliders and nuclear weapons, were either invented or redesigned by Adam Kelly, all thanks to Kryptonite.
