Contacts [Level-1 (x3); Level-2 (x4); Level-3 (x1)]:

Level-1 (freebie): UCAS FBI Special Agent [Special Agent Gwen Douglas, UCAS Dwarf Female] Hajime made Gwen's acquaintance when he was working on the UCAS end of the Hong Kong smuggling operation. Gwen had been passed over for promotion once too many times either because she was female or a metahuman. She is disgruntled and is now a bit jaded from "being on the take". She can arrange for certain shipments to get past customs. It was Kwan Shing (see below) who first introduced Hajime to Gwen as an important link in the smuggling operation.

Level-1 (bought): Street Mage [Luna Corona, UCAS (Seattle) Elven Female] Right before Hajime left SF, he had his first taste of "magical eavesdropping". The third major assassination attempt on his life could only have been made possible if someone had pentrated all his technological security. After arriving in Seattle, Luna was introduced to Hajime through Dr. Guverra (he successfully defended her on a "magical assault" charge). After an extensive background check, Hajime selected Luna as his goto person when he wants "magical security". Her main qualification is her focus on detection spells.

Level-1 (extra contact edge): Lawyer [Dr. Francisco Guverra, Free-Cal Spanish Human Male] Hajime met and started working with Dr. Guverra when he was based out of San Francisco. Guverra had been born and grew up in LA and earned his Doctorate of Law at UCLA. When LA became free city, it turned out too disorganized and unruly for his taste. He had started out as an idealist civil right lawyer and had fought many legal cases for such organizations as the Orc Underground (he often did not win either because he was up against Megacorps or "fixed" judges). When he moved to SF, his idealism eventually died down as the Japanese Military enforced its brand of justice. In order to gain some protection, he went to work for the Yakuza. When Hajime made the move to Seattle, his lawyer Dr. Guverra went with him.

Level-2 (freebie): "Mr. Johnson" (fellow Dumpshock PC) [Mr. Snow, Nationality? Human? Male?] Connection to be worked out on Dumpshock.

Level-2 (bought): Lone Star Police Captain [Capt. Jiro Park, UCAS Korean-Japanese Human Male] Hajime knows Capt. Park through his sister, Shino Park. Shino is a close friend and devoted bodyguard to Hajime (the details are in Shino's profile). Essentially Jiro was separated from his sister and lost contact after he left to go train at Lone Stars main Texas facility. Hajime saved Shino from a short life on the streets and has given her a life.

Since Hajime was able to "save" Shino when her older brother (and only surviving relative) could not, Jiro feels indebted to Hajime. While Jiro is a devoted and loyal member of Lone Star, he is able to bend the rules a bit out of gratitude for Hajime's protection of Shino. Capt. Park is one of the senior LS officers in Seattle who has recently been reassigned as the third in command of the "Shadowriders" Division/Project. Due to the increased work load recently for LS, the Seattle office has been authorized to hire on Shadowrunners "unofficially" to take care of problems LS can't legally touch.

Level-2 (friends in high places): Resource Adjustment Division VP for Shiawase [Mr. Takashi Shimada, Japanese Human Male] Mr. Shimada is actually and old childhood friend of Hajime from Tokyo. Both Shimada and Hajime followed their father's footsteps career wise, Shimada going the corporate route and Hajime joining the Yakuza. Even as a young junior exec, Shimada knew the usefulness of having contacts on the "wrong side of the law".

During their early days, Hajime took on the occasional freelance "shadowrun" for Shimada, which helped Shimada gain advancement (usually at the expense of his peers/rivals) while Hajime either pocketed the extra nuyen or gained access to some new bioware. Shimada also ended up in SF for a bit while Hajime was there. They renewed their relationship and each of them benefited due to the collaboration. Now Shimada has been recently promoted to one of the Assistant Vice President positions in the "Resource Adjustment Division" of Shiawase. With his role as a member of the Sokaiya, Hajime is once again in a position to assist VP Shimada to their mutual benefit.

Level-2 (friends abroad): Father's friend & business partner (smuggler) in Hong Kong [Mr. Kwan Shing, Chinese Orc Male] Mr. Shing is one of the Yakuza's best kept secrets in Hong Kong. Kwan has been able to secretly setup a small, quiet but fairly profitable smuggling operation between HK and the UCAS (usually funneling the goods through Seattle). Kwan had worked with and been good friends with Hajime's father Tetsuro. Tetsuro worked for about 20 years in Hong Kong for the Yakuza, developing and nurturing the smuggling operation in secret.

Kwan offered sympathy to Tetsuro when his wife goblinized shortly after Hajime's birth and was deported to Yomi Island (due to his work in Hong Kong, Tetsuro was unable to get back and arrange an alternative fate for Okimi). Later Kwan offered sympathy to Hajime after Tetsuro was killed by a Triad assassin and he helped bury his old friend. When Hajime got his first foreign assignment from the Yakuza, Kwan was a big help for Hajime in restructuring the HK operations.

Kwan was also a big help in introducing Hajime to the usefulness of metahumans (Hajime's father learned to shed his prejudice when he saw how efficient the Orc Underground could be and taught his son likewise). Kwan helped Hajime make his big breakthrough, which was the establishment of smuggling ties to the Tir through the city of Portland (via the established trade route between the Tir and Seattle). Kwan is now in charge of the HK operation and has managed to establish a civil relationship with the Triads and the Orc Underground. He keeps in touch with Hajime fairly regularly.

Level-3 (freebie): Chauffer/Personal Bodyguard [Shino Park, Korean-Japanese Human Female] Shino and her older brother Jiro are the only offspring of a marriage between a former Korean Yakuza boss in San Francisco and the daughter of a Japanese Yakuza soldier. Although Shino took after her father, Jiro wanted to live a legitimate life on the right side of the law. Jiro applied for and received an enlistment with Lone Star based in Texas.

When Shino was still only 10, Jiro left to attend LS training at the Texas training facility. Jiro promised before he left that he would keep in touch with Shino and watch out for her. About four years later, the orders came in from Japan for a major purge of all the "impure traitorous" Korean influences in the West Coast Yakuza. Shino's father was killed by his Japanese bodyguard and her mother "disappeared" during a metahuman riot. Shino was alone and her mixed heritage meant that neither the Triads nor the Yakuza trusted her (the Mafia had a grudge against her father due to an early hit on a Mafia capo arranged by him). She had nowhere to turn but the streets, living on her wits. Her brother has received word that his whole family (including Shino) had been killed in the purge and that he no longer had a home or family to go back to in San Francisco.

When Hajime arrived in SF three years later, he made a point of investigating non-traditional assets in the area when arranging for assignments. He came across Shino in a bad part of SF, he was racing his Honda Banshee bike for fun when he saw Shino fighting 5 gangers single handedly. She was defending the fallen body of a fellow outcast child of a dead Korean Yakuza soldier. Despite being out numbered she used her wits and the terrain to effectively hold off her attackers for several minutes. Hajime had seen enough fights to know that she could not hold out forever and he had seen the spark of potential in her.

When the gangers made their big move, Hajime quickly drew his pistols and killed 2 of the gangers before they knew he was there. This distraction was all Shino needed, while the gangers focused on Hajime Shino sprang into action disabling or killing the remaining three gangers. It seems before her father died, he had given her some cyberware so that she would always have an edge. Her fallen friend turned out to be dead from his wounds but Shino insisted on taking the body to be properly buried.

This was the start of a long and close relationship between Shino Park and Hajime Shishio. This was also one of the "last straws" for the local SF Yaks, who used it as an excuse to try and take Hajime out. Shino proved to be very loyal and had formed an attachment to Hajime. Hajime in turn extended his personal protection to Shino, shielding her from Yak reprisals. He also helped her gain access to more and high grade cyberware so that she could keep her keen edge (this included wired reflexes, cyber ears/eyes, cyber weapon implants for close combat and VCRs to jack into vehicles for high speed exits and for being able to remotely call Hajime's sports car in case of trouble.

Shino is the closest person to Hajime and the only one he comes close to trusting. She in turn offers total loyalty and looks after Hajime's well being like a hawk. Most of the time Hajime feels that Shino is sufficient protection for most meets (after all 1 guard you trust with your life is better than 3-4 guards who may either run away or stab you in the back).

Character Background (Hajime Shishio):

Hajime Shishio was born in Tokyo in the Imperial State of Japan. His parents were both Japanese Humans (to start with). His father was Tetsuro Shishio who was a mid-level underboss for the Watada-Rengo Yakuza clan. His mother was Okimi Kodo-Shishio and she was the daughter of a Shiawase mid-level executive. Okimi married young; she was only 17 when she became Tetsuro's wife. When she was 18 she became pregnant with Hajime. Four months into the pregnancy, Tetsuro was ordered to Hong Kong by the Yakuza. Tetsuro's orders were to lay the groundwork for developing a smuggling operation between the UCAS and Hong Kong under the noses of the Triads.

Since Tetsuro had worked well in the past with metahumans, he was chosen for this assignment. The reason for this was that the key player in Hong Kong for the Yakuza was a well connected Orc named Kwan Shing. Tetsuro was told that this project had a high priority and was being personally overseen back in Japan by the head of the clan. He was also told that he could not take his family with him. While Tetsuro was in Hong Kong, Hajime was born. He was a bit premature and right from the start he seemed to not be very physically robust. However it was clear that young Hajime was very alert and seemed quick to learn. Hajime was only 8 months old when his mother had her 20th birthday. A week before her birthday, she had become quite ill. When the doctor arrived, he declared that she was undergoing "goblinization".

For that whole week she slowly and painfully changed into an Orc. When she had finished, it was just a day after her 20th birthday. By Imperial Japanese law, all metahumans are to be "relocated" to Yomi Island and Okimi was not exception. Due to his deep involvement with the Yakuza's Hong Kong-UCAS smuggling operation, Tetsuro was not able to get back to Japan and he was powerless to prevent Okimi's relocation. From that time on, no one has heard from Okimi and Hajime does not know if she is still alive. His maternal aunt and her family raised Hajime. Hajime's aunt had married an up and coming Shiawase executive and they had one son, Takashi Shimada who was a year older than Hajime.

Hajime and Takashi grew up together and had the usual sibling rivalry for Takashi's parents' attention. They both went to the corporate school where Hajime consistently outperformed Takashi due to his intelligence. However Hajime had inherited his father's lawless streak and was often getting in trouble by hanging out with the local go-gangers. Hajime developed a real interest in racing motorcycles and he was able to charm his way into the "Diamond Katanas" go-gang, which was sponsored by the Watada-Rengo Yakuza clan.

Although he was not very strong and only had average agility, he had a sharp mind and a silver tongue. If he could not think of a way out of trouble, he could often talk is way past it. He also developed a knack for organizing, planning and analysis. Whenever the DKs were thinking of doing a run or setting up a rumble, the gang leaders would come to Hajime with the details and ask him his advice for the setup. It was during his years planning the DKs movements that Hajime picked up the streetname "Daimyo" which he has used ever since.

Two events occurred during his teenage go-ganger years that would have lasting effects on his life. The first was when his go-gang was ordered to make a run on a MCT magic research facility. They were just supposed to go in, break stuff, cause confusion and then get the hell out (they were supposed to act as a distraction for the real insertion/infiltration team). Hajime was the one who designed most of the plan so as to maximize chaos and minimize casualties. Everything went fine until the very end.

Just as the D.K.s were riding out of the facility, they passed a storage container, which had been wired to blow by the main infiltration team. Nobody ever found out what was in that tank but when it blew a third of the DKs were killed in the explosion (or by flying shrapnel) and the half of the survivors were covered in some kind of astrally active material. Hajime was one of those who got splashed. Roughly a week after the run, the survivors who had been exposed to this stuff got very ill and were taken to a Yakuza black clinic. Hajime was only one of 2 who survived (out of 6) the illness and exposure.

The only thing that was different about Hajime and the other survivor was that neither had any cyberware implants. Whatever this material had been, it reacted violently to Essence loss caused by cyberware (it was this reaction and rejection that killed the other 4 DKs). When the other survivor tried to get Hand Razors implanted a month later (using the cred the surviving gangers had earned for the run), he almost went into shock, as the implants just would not stay grafted. It became apparent that neither this ganger nor Hajime were ever going to be able to implant cyberware (it is assumed that this condition was for life but since nobody knew what the hell that compound was, who can tell).

The other experience that changed Hajime was when he tried using a non-cyber electrode run simsense rig. Simsense and low power BTLs were an in thing with the DKs (who were able to rebuild using the Yak funds). Hajime (against his better judgment) was persuaded to try out some of the new BTLs the gang had scored from another corp run. When he tried the BTL, he got a major shock to his system as the corp had booby trapped the BTL. Luckily Hajime was able to disconnect the trodes before serious harm occurred (had he been hooked up via a cyber simsense, he would probably be dead). From that time on, Hajime could not use simsense (not even smartlinks) for extended periods of time without getting headaches and becoming disoriented.

When Hajime completed the corp high school at 17, he was offered a position in the Yakuza to follow in his father's footsteps. Takashi continued onto corp college and was given an exec job at Shiawase by his father when he graduated. Hajime continued his education by reading as much as he could (often being teased by the less intellectual members of his go-gang and in the Yakuza). The Yakuza bosses realized that Hajime had potential but his physical weakness was a problem. Since cyberware was not an option, the Yakuza used their connections with Shiawase to arrange for some basic bioware to help augment Hajime's physical abilities.

Following his "upgrade", Hajime became a soldier in the Yakuza and was often assigned to take out tough to reach targets. Hajime was pretty good with a pistol but he found that the best weapon for quick silent kills was the monofilament whip. What was more, unlike other melee weapons, the MF Whip did not depend on the user's strength to be effective. After a couple of years as a "trouble shooter" for the Yakuza, Hajime slowly used his brains and charm to work up into middle management. There were few openings available in the Yaks home territory of Japan so Hajime knew that his best chances of advancement were Yak operations outside the country. With this in mind, Hajime began to seriously study both Chinese and English.

When Hajime was 21, news came from Hong Kong that his father Tetsuro had been killed in a Triad ambush down by the docks. The Yakuza needs someone smart and determined to quickly fill in the position otherwise the whole operation might begin to fall apart. With his smarts and his command of Chinese as well as his way of sweet talking people into doing what he wanted, Hajime was the perfect choice. The Yakuza knew that Hajime would work extra hard to hold onto the operation that his father had given his life for.

Sure enough, Hajime was able to get things in order shortly after arriving in Hong Kong. He was able to keep the contacts from being discovered by the Triads and even managed to get some of the local Triads to fight between each other (which helped to keep the heat off of the Yaks business interests). Hajime worked very well with his father's business partner and friend, Mr. Kwan Shing. Kwan introduced Hajime to the Yaks UCAS connection in Seattle, Special Agent Gwen Douglas who helped the customs people turn a blind eye to certain shipments. Kwan was also instrumental in connecting Hajime to the metahuman contacts and organizations that Hajime needed to pull of his own business coup.

With his willingness to work with metahumans and treat them fairly, Hajime was able to setup a budding under the table information & technology trade with the Tir Tairngre through the "foreigner city" of Portland. For 4 years things went smoothly for Hajime and the Yakuza operations but Hajime wanted something more. Despite the fact that it was not the "smart move", Hajime felt he needed closure on his father's death and he needed to establish that hits on Yakuza personnel were not going to be tolerated. Hajime used his and Kwan's contacts in Hong Kong to track down the four hit men and the Triad boss who ordered the hit. In a series of near simultaneous hits (each one planned with great care), all five Triad members were killed by independently contacted Shadowrun teams. The Triads blew up into an internal civil war as each side blamed the other (and took the opportunity to settle old scores).

The Yakuza back in Japan were upset with Hajime for taking matters into his own hands and for causing the police to tighten security in Hong Kong. However they could not deny that he had been very effective and his Tir operation was just beginning to bring in some real money. As a compromise, the Yaks sent him to San Francisco in the Free Cal State, Hajime brought his open work policy of dealing with metahumans and non-Japanese to SF and within a few months of arriving he had established a small clique of reliable non-traditional assets.

However his methods did not please with the SF Yakuza boss nor was his ambition and influence appreciated since his methods were making the rest of them look bad. The problem was that Hajime had been given autonomy to handle issues as he saw fit as long as they were in the best interest of the Yakuza. Hajime operated up and down the Free Cal coast and was one of the first Yaks to realize the potential money to be made playing both sides of the Tir-Cal border disputes.

Hajime made the acquaintance of the civil rights lawyer, Dr. Francisco Guverra, when one of his metahuman operatives got picked up by the local cops. Guverra, with an infusion of cash, was able to win an acquittal for his client. Hajime was impressed with Guverra's litigation style and inquired why he did not work for one of the major law firms. It seems that only full Japanese lawyers stood any chance of making partner ever since the Japanese Marines had landed in SF. Realizing that having a smart legal mind who could help find loopholes in the law could be very beneficial to someone working with shadow assets, Hajime broke with local Yak tradition and took on the non-Japanese lawyer to be his personal attorney. Hajime promised to support Guverra's idealism (what was left) in fighting for metahuman rights in court as long as he would make himself available should Hajime require immediate legal assistance. Also since Guverra could see that unlike most Japanese (especially Yakuza), Hajime got along with metahumans fairly well and even treated them with dignity (if not always respect) Francisco decided that he could work within the boundaries Hajime has setup. The traditional Yak Japanese lawyers took this incident to be a slap in the face and complained to the SF Yak boss.

It was when Hajime started bringing in the surviving children of the old purged Korean-Japanese Yakuza, that the SF bosses had really had enough. They justified to themselves that they were just preventing the potential Korean contamination of the Yakuza that the original purge had been meant to exterminate. Thus for over the course of the 2 and a half years that Hajime remained in Free Cal, no fewer than 3 serious assassination attempts were made on his life (a there were several less organized "random ganger violence" incidents). Hajime is anything but slow, he realized right away that the only way these assassins could be tracking his movements so well and hitting at such well timed moments was if his own people were setting him up. Hajime developed a bit of paranoia regarding security sweeps for bugging and assassins.

Of course there was more to Hajime than met the eye by this time. He had taken the opportunity both in Hong Kong and later in SF to get more Bioware (some of it cultured) in order to gain a sharper edge over his competition. What was even more key to his continued survival was finding Ms. Shino Park. Shino proved to be a quick, strong & tough naturally (everything Hajime had not been growing up) and she was also sharp witted and reasonably strong willed. Although she was ok looking, her real personality flaw came in a lack of social grace and confidence in social situations outside of fight-or-flight combat situations. This was mainly due to her having to live day-to-day on the streets without a family to care for her as she was growing up.

Hajime has worked to help build her confidence and more importantly he has fostered her potential and talents by providing her with top grade cyberware (often making up for the cyber advantage which were denied him). She has become an expert shot (better than Hajime) and she had been able to use her strength advantage too good use learning martial arts. Hajime also made sure to send her to defensive (and offensive) driving schools and supplied the rigged car that she controls with great skill (something that has saved both their lives more than once). While she is still lacking in many social skills for high society, her knowledge of the streets allows her to interact with people well enough. She knows enough to stay quiet and keep to the shadows when Hajime is doing business, but if someone tries something she is able to explode into action with her first priority being to insure Hajime's safety. Once that is done, she sets her sights on whoever threatened them and makes sure they can't ever do it again.

After 3 major assassination attempts in almost as many years, Hajime realized it was time to move on. By this time Kwan Shing had taken many of his contacts and his metahuman smuggling organization and gone independent. The Yakuza's replacement for Hajime had been incompetent and a racist to boot. With the replacement in charge, the Yak operation had begun to loose ground to the Triads who had finished their internal fighting. When the Yak replacement met with an "untimely accident", Kwan took the opportunity to go underground and the Yaks lost their smuggling connection.

Kwan has resurfaced as an independent operator who can work equally well with any syndicate. While the Yaks would like to make an example out of Kwan, they don't have the organization anymore in Hong Kong (thanks to their own short sightedness) and Kwan has the protection of the Triads if for nothing else than to just be a thorn in the Yak's side. Besides, Kwan is still willing to work with the Yaks (for a "small" percentage) and, since Kwan's network is the best one for dealing with the Tir, the Yakuza have granted "clemency" to Kwan.

Well it was about this time that Oyabun Hanzo Shotozumi in Seattle decided to declare his clan's independence from Japan and formed the Shotozumi-Rengo. Hajime saw the potential and opportunity that Hanzo's move had created. Bringing his Free Cal contacts and his Hong Kong connection to Kwan with him, Hajime moved to Seattle and was able to negotiate a strong position within the Shotozumi-Rengo. He took Shino with him and Dr. Guverra accepted his invitation to move to Seattle.

Hajime is now the Shateigashira-hosa and personal assistant to Hanzo's cousin Toju Shotozumi who is the Shateigashira in charge of the Sokaiya. Hajime has been able to rekindle his connections with Takashi Shimada who had done quite well for himself becoming the newest Vice President of Shiawase's Resource Adjustment Division. Shino has also introduced Hajime to her only living relative, her older brother Lone Star Capt. Jiro Park.

Jiro feels indebted to Hajime for saving his sister's life and for getting her off the streets. He has done quite well for himself too (although he has lost his idealism after seeing that LS really is just a business not the cops). Jiro has recently been assigned the number three command slot for the "unofficial" Shadowriders Project, which deals with LS's hiring of Shadowrunners to handle tricky problems that can fall outside the law. Shino is still as protective as ever and maturing into a true Street Samurai Retainer. Meanwhile Dr. Guverra has established his legal practice in the more run down part of Seattle and has been working on several cases for the Orc Underground.
