Escape
Sakura and Miya walked into the maze. She kept the little girl by her side. The
tenshi-chi had to keep her guard up.
“Shhh. Shhh. Shhh. Shhh.”
Miya closed her eyes as she kept walking. Her mother
held up a small charm in her hand. Honey. Where
are you? I found our girl. She focused her
energy on finding her husband. Her ears caught a flapping sound. No, Sakura
couldn’t get distracted. She needed to find Spike. However, she had to move
quickly. She reached down and patted her daughter on the head. Sakura took
another breath and kept walking.
“It’s okay, baby. We’ll find Papa and get out of here real soon.” That’s more to
herself. She pushed herself to keep focusing on the charm.
Suddenly, a faint whistle caught Sakura’s ear. The tenshi-chi turned her head.
“Spike?” she asked. Sakura kept looking around in the empty space. It sounded
like there were footsteps coming toward her. She thought that she heard him
calling her name.
----------
Spike’s left ear was ringing. He clenched his teeth and took a breath. How and
when did he get here? However, that doesn’t matter right now. He has to find his
family and get the hell out of here. Unlike his wife, he didn’t have the angelic
guides to help him. The cowboy was going to have to wing it. It’s not like he
hasn’t done this before. Sometimes it worked out and other times…
Spike lifted his head. That looked like Sakura and Miya wandering up ahead of
him. He blinked and rubbed his eyes. No, this was real. That was his family
right there. Spike began to yell at them as he walked closer. Neither one was
looking up. Could they hear him? The cowboy started to flag them down.
Suddenly, Sakura looked up.
-----------
The couple was looking for each other. They were close, but it was like an
invisible glass wall between them. Sakura looked around once more and saw Spike
trying to get her attention. She ran over to him but stopped in her tracks.
“Spike-kun?” the tenshi-chi asked. She narrowed her eyes as she tried to hear
what he was saying. Could he hear her? Miya turned her head and perked up.
“Papa!” she shouted. She tried to reach out to him but her fingertips touched
glass. Sakura and Spike looked down at their daughter. It was then they could
finally see each other. The tenshi-chi felt her heart do little flutters in her
chest. Spike put up his hand in a wave again.
“Yo!” he said. Sakura collapsed against the glass.
“Darling,” she breathed out. Spike looked at the invisible wall between him and
his family. He tapped on the surface.
“What the hell? What the hell is that?” he asked. Sakura looked up at him.
“I don’t know. It looks like a barrier of some sort,” she said.
“And how do we break it?” the cowboy asked. His wife frowned as she looked at
the invisible glass in front of her.
“I don’t know,” she admitted. Miya frowned as she ached to hug her father again.
She whimpered next to her mother. Sakura reached down and patted her on the
head.
“I know, baby,” she said in a low moan. Escaping this place now had an extra
step. Break the invisible glass, get out of this maze, and get back on their
vacation. Plus, there were still many demons chasing after them. It all just
kept piling up, didn’t it?
Soon, that wasn’t going to be the only problem that they had.
