First of all, it starts out with a grid consisting of 4 quadrents.
You and your opponent would start out in opposite quadrents (Example:1 and 4) and then form there you would chose a quadrent to move to and a quadrent to send your attack to. if the person is in that quadrent then you have the chance of hitting him. also, if both of you collide in the same quadrent then you must resort to melee attacks.
