Warnings: ABSTRACTNESS!!!....weirdness, shounen-ai, OOC (look at the language, peeps!), perhaps a touch of angst, sap, definite sap.
Feedback: Sure.
Disclaimer:I don't own the Tiger, or the Speaker, or the Hunters, or the Innocent. I didn't even write the poem. How sad! Such a let down after Marry Me in Marigolds where I could claim everything but two characters....*sniffles*
Notes: It's a complete metaphor. We all *know* that Heero's not a tiger, he does not have a pelt to place upon the floor, and OZ is a not a bunch of hunters, that restraints are not hunter's nets...it's all figurative. Anyways, if you don't like it, pretend it's someone actually talking to a tiger, then flame me for being OT and not saying it.
Duo's POV
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, and what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
You're beautiful. But no one's told you that, right? Tiger, you're so quick to fight, so quick to run, and you never linger, never pause. Feral beast, you set my heart aflame with your fierce gaze. What makes you burn, burn so brightly that you glow? What has caused you so much pain that you absorb the heat, but release the light? Tiger, worry not of the hunters that seek you for your pelt.
You are the king of your realm, and yet you run. You stalk the shadows in the night, skulking the known and nameless paths, waiting for the next kill to come by. Injustice has cast her hand over your ferocious face, and still you survive, burning inside as a warning to all of your fate. Yet others follow, enticed by your mystique.
Shall I join your cause, fighter of the woods? Shall I kill beside you, knowing that in doing so my doom draws near, for soon I'll be a nameless fur upon some hunter's floor? To bring you justice, shall I die in your stead, so that one day you may die in honor, while I die now in shame?
Shall I recount the time when we met? It was upon some unknown path in some unknown wood, and you leapt, with claws bared at an innocent, and to save she who would surely perish, I wronged you. I ruined your fair coat, bringing blood to the surface, and then I let you become ensnared in what I believed were the innocent's nets. How wrong I was. Hunters are never innocent.
Fettered I found you, but still in spite, or perhaps to spite all that they had reduced you to, you still glowed, beast of the forest. What else could I do? I cut you free. You would have chewed your own leg off to free yourself from this trap, but what good is a maimed tiger to any? A target not worth the pursuit, no matter how fine the pelt may be.
Tiger, I should have known. One may entrap your body and hold you hostage, but your heart belongs to you alone, and you, oh suspicious creature of the night (1), have hidden that far away. I cannot even begin to wonder where such a treasure is stowed, no matter how much I wish to be the one to hold it. You have had mine ever since I saw you lurking in the shadows.
You run, but nothing holds fear for you, neither I, nor the hunters that chase you, wishing to add one of the last freedom seekers to their collection. You could strike me down, fire burner, and still I would remain, if not in body, then in the fire that you hold within, forever. You have me entrapped in a net that I cannot escape; I cannot cut it like those that held you captive so long ago. I'm yours, Tiger, though you may not know it, may not understand, since that which would is hidden and locked away. Follow your feelings, I have heard you remark. Alas, alas, I follow my foolish heart.
~OWARI~
(1)*breaks into song* Turn your face away from the harshness of the day and surrender to the beauty of the night...
