Reason for writing: Aithne, lurker of fire has reared her head, and thus, there is a theme of fire in at least two works, and she is the cause of all this meaningless abstractness.
Notes: Ok, second attempt at free verse. It's not as bad as I thought, especially with Raine and Aithne joining forces. I suppose I should explain. Ok, I can't. However, when you get angry, do you ever notice that your cheeks get hot? Mine do, but only when I'm really ticked. And I thought, why are these guys fighting, and for some reason anger and betrayal came to mind, I know anger and betrayal really don't factor into the reasoning, but they are results of their fighting. At least, I don't see how anyone can fight and remain calm and cool and collected and unaffected by public opinion. Personally, I want to throttle all the colonies for betraying those that were fighting for them...but, hey, that's just me...I have yet to resurrect Ursula (no not the mean sea-witch, but the lurker of the bear, a violent voice that I would prefer to keep under wraps, due to the fact that then all my fics would end up with everyone dying. Think Romeo and Juliet with nuclear warheads. That is Ursula's wrath.)
My candle burns at both ends;
    It will not last the night;
But, ah, my foes, and, oh, my friends-
    It gives a lovely light!

Burning
We burn brightly
Our anger makes us burn
More anger than anyone should carry
More betrayal than anyone should feel
Little soldiers, burning brightly
In a sea of dark deceit
Bright stars on unlit skies
Too small to make much difference
To those in the night
Fumbling for the truth
Never to find it in shimmering starlight
Anger, hate, betrayal,
Feed our internal flames
Make us burn, blaze forever
As a warning for all those that follow
All those foolish enough to think
That war's a game.
We fight lest we surrender
We die lest we might live.
Peace?
What is that?
The word is alien on our lips
What right have we to wish for something
That we are the enemy of?
Shedding blood that
Mixes with our tears.
Pain,
Purify us, before we die.
We will not last to see the dawn
The end of all this darkness
Let us leave,
Forgotten and uncared for
But know only this:
We have saved someone from our tragic fate.
C&C Welcomed. Especially criticism. Take me down a notch. Note, all flames will be gleefully handed over to Aithne, who will set them on fire (*Aithne gets lighter ready*) and make it so that Ursula wakes up, and then the *real* trouble will begin.
