Nightmare

This is written solely by Justin Conidaris.   He put his trust in me and allowed me to publish this poem on my website.  I would be very hurt if anyone were to break that trust and take it. 

It’s dark. I cannot see anything but shadows. A voice beckons: “Come” it says, “Come to me…” The voice keeps calling. I follow it. I walk along the passage of darkness, yet, even though I cannot see, I don’t stumble, I don’t fall.

The voice beckons again: “Come” it says, “Come to me…” Then, a child’s voice begins to sing: “Hush little baby, please don’t cry…” I hear the voice calling again: “Come to me…” it says, “Come…”

The child’s voice is singing still: “And if that mocking bird don’t sing…” The voice still beckons: “Come to me…” The child’s voice still sings: “And if that diamond ring don’t shine…”

Suddenly, I see a light. I start to run. The child’s voice stops singing, but the voice is still calling: “Come to me…” Suddenly, I’m falling, but I don’t scream. Then, as I hit the bottom…

…I wake up.
