Chapter Five: Message
Towards the afternoon, Quatre began his search for an apartment, along with Duo to tag along. Duo enjoyed the ride. It seemed to him that he hadn't been out in a long while. With a Third like Duo, the risk of going out in public wasn't a popular thing to do. Most of the time he didn't go out to have fun, except last night.
On his search, Quatre had been rejected by two apartment landlords, but the last one sounded hopeful. The room had a good view, a bit larger than his old apartment, good for company, and the neighborhood was nice. They would come back tomorrow to check with the landlord again.
Quatre and Duo exited the building, and began their walk back to where they parked.
"That one sounded promising," Quatre said.
"For the moment," Duo said. "He could always change his mind and give it to a human real quick."
Quatre looked at Duo. Before he could say anything, his attention came to a black car with tinted windows that pulled up next to Quatre's motorcycle. Both Thirds looked at it. It sat there for a few seconds, immobile. Quatre looked at it suspiciously, thinking a hateful driver was behind the wheel. He went to approach it, but before taking his first step, the car sped off.
"What the hell was that?" Duo asked.
Quatre watched as the black car sped down the street. "I don't know." He shook his head. "Come on, let's go." He mounted his motorcycle, with Duo joining him from behind. He started the engine and started off back to Duo's hideout. He parked his motorcycle safely, and the two of them walked down into the subway.
"Well, I think you'll have to stay here for another night," Duo said. "You're okay with that, right?"
Quatre smiled gently at him. "I don't mind. It's different, but I don't mind."
Duo squinted an eye at him. "You're just saying that to be nice."
"No, really." He chuckled lightly. "You're my friend, I wouldn't lie to you. I can wait a few days."
Duo smiled and shook his head.
They continued down the empty tracks, until reaching the---crumbled archway of Duo's hideout. They stopped in their tracks, staring wide-eyed at the rubble that laid in a heep. Quatre approached the pile.
"What happened?" Duo asked.
Quatre shifted a few pieces of the rubble. "I think it was delierate. There couldn't have been a way it could have collapsed on itself. The frame was too strong. This subway isn't that old." He noticed something propped up on the slabs of concrete. "Here, what's this?" He picked it up. It was a small piece of paper with a note. He read from it: "Dear fucking Thirds, you wasn't here, when I was. Agent Quatre, dont think this is over. You know who I am, and I won't let you reveal me to the public. If you're smart, you'll know what'll happen. I'm on your trail, you're dead. Kyle Murdock." Quatre lowered his arm and stared. "Shit, he's alive."
"Who? Wait, isn't he---"
"Yeah." He turned around. "The assassin of President Darlin. And he's a Third. I found out a few days ago. I told Heero about it last night."
"Are you serious?"
"I saw it with my own eyes," Quatre said. "Damn, I thought he was dead. He must have someone working with him." He then bolted off. Duo soon chased after him.
"Hey, wait, where are we going?"
"I've got to tell the captain!" Quatre called over his shoulder.
"Hey, what about my place?"
"You can come with me! I'll take care of you."
"Take care of me? Hey, you're the one that has a crazy Third after him, why would I feel safe you with?"
