The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis

The Chronicles of Narnia Book One: The Magician's Nephew

The Magician's Nephew is a good first book for this series. It sets the tone for the rest of the books. In The Magician's Nephew, you meet Polly and Diggory, young children that live next door to each other. They often wonder about Diggory's uncle, who, every single day, stays in his study doing who knows what. Diggory isn't allowed in the study, but he often wonders. One day, he and Polly sneak up to the study. They are caught by Diggory's uncle and, as punishment, they are forced to be the uncle's test subjects. They must test special transportation rings. These rings help them travel to the strange worlds beyond. They visit the old land where the sun is dying. Then they come back, pick up some passengers, and go to the land of the new, where life has barely started. They witness animals getting the gift of speech from the high leader of Narnia, who is a lion named Aslan, and they discover the White Witch, an incredibly evil woman who wants to take over the new world, which is called Narnia. What will happen to Polly and Diggory? Will Narnia be destroyed by the White Witch? Find out in the first book of this exciting series!

The Chronicles of Narnia Book Two: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Probably the best known of all the Narnia books. This story takes place many years after Polly and Diggory visit Narnia. In this book, four completely different brothers and sisters visit Narnia. Their names are Peter, Edmund, Lucy and Susan. These children were sent to live with a professor. On their first day at his house, they play hide-and-seek. Lucy hides in a big wardrobe she finds. But it turns out that this wardrobe is much more than a hiding place. It is a portal to another world. A world plagued by snow and ice. Could this land really be Narnia? This cold place of eternal winter? As Lucy finds out, Narnia was taken over by the White Witch. When Lucy gets out of Narnia and tells everyone about her adventure, no one believes her. But they find it out for themselves that it's true when they see Narnia with their own eyes. Can these four children save Narnia? Find out in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe!

The Chronicles of Narnia Book Three: The Horse and his Boy

This book is about young Shasta. Shasta lives with a cruel man. This man makes Shasta work. This is fine with Shasta, until he discovers that this man is not his father and he does not belong in the cruel land of Calormen. He also discovers that he is to be sold as a slave. So he steals the slave driver's talking horse, named Bree. He rides Bree to the land called Narnia, where people are free. He meets many people and animals. He must sneak through cities, ride through deserts, and he also finds out a secret that very well may change his life. He also meets the rulers of Narnia: Queen Susan, King Edmund, Queen Lucy, and High King Peter. Other than this part, the story does not have a lot to do with Book 2 or Book 1.
