The continent of Africa is so large it is surrounded by two oceans: the Atlantic Ocean; and the Indian Ocean. It is also surrounded by the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Arabian Sea. Many creatures live in these waters, including the Blue Whale and the Short-Finned Pilot Whale.
Africa has many long rivers like the Congo River, the Niger River, and the Zambezi. The world’s longest river the Nile River is also in Africa. The Nile River is approximately 4,184 miles long. The rivers in Africa house several animals, including the Crocodile Monitor and the Nile Crocodile.
The precise number of lakes in Africa is unknown, but it is estimated that there are approximately 677 lakes on the continent. The largest lake on the continent is Lake Victoria; it covers 26,836 square miles. Other large lakes in Africa are Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi, and Lake Chad. Africa’s lakes are the homes for a variety of animals, including the Hippopotamus.
