
The ancient Egyptians worshiped many gods and goddesses. Ancient temples were devoted to individual gods and ancient Egyptians believed that the statues of the gods were the bodies of the gods, themselves. Priests worked to serve the gods on earth. Ancient Egyptian temples were often more than places of religious worship. They contained stores, offices, libraries, and schools.
