Ramondo is the son of silk merchant from Freeport. As a
young boy, Ramondo would accompany his father on his business trips and would be
a frequent visitor to the Ashen Order in West Freeport.
Ramondo would watch the monks practice their craft at every opportunity. In a
small boy’s single-mindedness to succeed, young Ramondo broke his leg twice
jumping from the roof of the family home in his efforts to practice safe fall.
The monk guild leaders and Ramondo’s father decided that as soon as he was old
enough, it would be safer if young Ramondo learned the ways of the monk in
proper fashion.
Ramondo prefers to speak little and instead quietly listen and observe the world
around him. During his formal training in the Ashen Order, Ramondo interrupted
his honored Guild master to tell him he was about to sit on top of a rather
large poisonous snake. The Guild master, outraged that Ramondo interrupted him
because the snake was part of the lesson, ordered Ramondo to take a vow of
silence for one year.
It was during this year that Ramondo and Carolie became inseparable. They had
grown up together and Carolie, uncomfortable with the upcoming changes she must
make in her life to learn her craft, was in great need of a kind ear to listen.
She received no response from Ramondo during their time together in Ramondo’s
year of silence, but expected none as she knew that Ramondo was as dedicated to
his trade as she was to hers.
When reaching early adulthood, it became necessary for Ramondo to explore
Norrath to further his studies with the monks in Qeynos and to learn from monks
across the land. Ramondo’s father and Carolie’s parents agreed it would be best
if Ramondo and Carolie traveled together in their journeys.
