Author's
Note!!!!!!!!!
I am not going
to be angry, I am not going to be angry, I am not going to be so frustrated,
because it will give me a huge headache.
This will be
repeated at both the top and bottom of the story since maybe seeing it twice
will make people read it.
First we are
going to have a little lesson in fanfiction.net. On the just in page or
wherever you read this, it reads like this: Choosing a Partner by Silver. You
can click on either the story or Silver. If you click on Silver it brings you
out to a page with my EMAIL, WEBPAGE, and other stories on it. I'm not going to
call people lazy or stupid, because it is entirely possible that you don't know
despite the fact that I've told you how do to this once. I am going to include
my webpage right here so people will stop asking me about it. I'm not that hard
to find!
The group
questions. Yes, Inuyasha will treat Kagome better. Yes, I have the story
written. No, you can't have the story in its entirety. No, I’m not going
to post more chapters, longer chapters, or better chapters. Yes, I'm updating
every day usually 2-4 pages.
Before anyone
gets mad at me, this is directed at a few people. Well, the Inuyasha treating
Kagome better isn't because everyone asked that question. Almost everyone. Most
of the reviews I look forward to. Whew, there are a lot of them… I don't
mind, though. *grin*
One other
thing. I am having a problem with ff.net and uploading. I upload the document,
it should be there, it isn't. I'm uploading it in html format, so it should be
there. I can preview it, I can post it three or four times, it isn't there.
Eventually it will make it.
Choosing a
Partner
Chapter 16
By Kenzie
Kennedy
Kagome paused
at Inuyasha’s door that morning on the way to breakfast. She could hear
the train going. It was strangely comforting. She shook her head and walked
down the hall a few feet.
"Hey."
Kagome turned
to see Inuyasha outside his room with one hand on the doorknob. He pulled the
door closed and walked down the hall. "Breakfast ready?" he asked.
She shrugged.
"Should be." Kagome turned away and kept going toward breakfast.
Inuyasha followed.
At the
breakfast table, most of the household was already there. Sango was late, but
she spun into the room right behind Inuyasha. "Good morning!" she
said happily.
Kagome raised
an eyebrow. "Looks like someone had a good rest."
Sango nodded.
"Exactly. My homework is all caught up finally. All I’ve got for
today is my normal workload." She frowned as she went to her seat. Sango
stopped, grabbed Miroku’s wrist that was connected to the hand on her
backside, pulled it off, and dropped it. "Well, that wasn’t
nice." She caught sight of Rimiko carrying a huge plate of pancakes.
"But that just cheered me up again." As soon as the plate was down
everyone dived into it.
Rimiko asked,
"Kagome, what are you doing today?"
Kagome
grimaced. "Well, I can’t go outside without Inuyasha so I thought
I’d wait for Kaede to show up to give me my lesson. That’s about it
for my day."
Rimiko nodded
sadly. "I really can’t let you go out, honey."
"I
know," Kagome said.
Rimiko glanced
at Inuyasha. "What are you going to be up to today?" Inuyasha stared
at her. Rimiko snapped her fingers. "You were going to clean the basement
up a little. I forgot."
Inuyasha
nodded slowly. That sounded like a good idea. This would be his first full day
that he would be free. Cleaning out the basement for his trains sounded good.
Sango
volunteered her information. "Computer homework and sitting in the library
reading that new book."
Rimiko smiled
encouragingly at Miroku. "What about you?"
Miroku smiled
back hesitantly. "Drawing."
Rimiko’s
eyes widened. "You can draw?"
Miroku
shrugged. "I’d like to try."
Rimiko nodded
to him. "You’ll do fine." The two boys, Sota and Kohaku went
off to school and everyone went about what they had already planned to do.
***
After her
lesson, Kagome peeked into Sango’s room. "Sango?" she asked
quietly.
The girl spun
around in her chair. "Yeah?"
"I’m
bored."
Sango’s
eyes widened. "Oh, no! Call the police! Kagome Higurashi is bored!"
Kagome rolled
her eyes. "Very funny. Aren’t you done with your homework yet?"
Sango nodded.
"Of course. It didn’t take that long. I was about to go to the
library and read. But if you want we could go for a walk or to the park or
something."
Kagome sighed.
"I can’t go outside, remember? Monsters out to get me until I can
defend myself?"
Sango slapped
her hand against her forehead. "That’s right. Why don’t you go
ask Inuyasha to go with you?"
Kagome flopped
down on Sango’s bed. "I don’t think he likes me."
"Really?
Why’s that?"
"He’s
rude, inconsiderate, takes everything I say wrong, and is a baka," Kagome
said forcefully.
Sango covered
her mouth as she tried not to laugh. "Wow. With that kind of attitude
toward him it’s no wonder he acts rude around you."
"It’s
not funny," Kagome protested. "How am I supposed to get to know the
guy when he already hates me?"
"Oh,
Kagome, he doesn’t hate you. How could he hate someone like you?
You’re happy all the time, you’re going to be a miko, and you freed
him." Sango thought for a moment. "Of course, the fact that
you’re always happy could drive anyone nuts. Being a miko could be a
definite drawback because you’d have the power to fry him where he stood
if he ticked you off. Adding in freeing him could make him feel inferior
towards you and make him rebel against you just because he could now."
"Sango!"
Kagome moaned. "You’re not helping!"
Sango sighed.
"Then go find him. He was going to clean out the basement and that’s
a worse job that those two rooms we did combined. There’s stuff down
there from your great-grandfather’s time."
Kagome snapped
her fingers. "Yeah!" She ran out of the room to help Inuyasha who,
she had decided, desperately needed her.
***
Inuyasha was
puzzling over exactly where to put his train when Kagome ran down the stairs
and bumped into him. "Watch where you’re going!" he growled at
her.
"Sorry."
She swept her hair out of her eyes. "Can I help?"
"No."
Kagome
frowned. "But I want to help you clean. Do you know how rare this is? Take
advantage of it."
Inuyasha
scowled. "All right if you have to be a nuisance. What should I do with
all this junk?"
Kagome glanced
around the room. "Call Mom down and ask her if there’s anything she
wants you to keep. Make one pile that’s questionable for her to look
through and one pile of stuff that’s trash. Some of this down here is
mine and Sango’s, so I could tell you what to keep."
"Fine,"
Inuyasha bit off and moved down the stairs.
***
They broke for
lunch and then went right back to cleaning. Kagome was amazed at how fast the
work went with Inuyasha being able to lift the heavy objects as if they were
feathers. They worked silently not speaking to one another.
Dinnertime
came and went. The room was mostly cleaned up by the time they went to bed.
Kagome promised that she’d come down and help after her lesson. She ran
up the stairs eager to get a bath and some sleep.
***
The next
morning when Kagome came down the stairs, Inuyasha was already finished with
the room. Kagome slumped a little disappointed at not having an obvious reason
to be around him. Then she snapped her fingers. "Why don’t we teach
you to ride that bike?" she asked hopefully.
Inuyasha
glanced back at the room, thought of his precious train, and agreed. He
followed Kagome out of the house and rolled his eyes when she stood there with
her eyes closed for a minute enjoying the feel of sun on her face. "Come
on," he said roughly. "Let’s get it over with."
Kagome fitted
the bike with the wheels and showed it to Inuyasha. He grabbed the wrench from
her hands and tightened the wheels on at least three more turns. Kagome
blushed. "Now sit on the seat," she instructed.
Inuyasha
grumbled, but he sat on the seat and stared at her. "Put your hands on the
handlebars and see if it feels comfortable. We can lower the seat if you
want." Kagome offered.
Inuyasha tried
it and Kagome saw that the seat was too high. "All right. Get off and
we’ll adjust it."
After the seat
was adjusted and Inuyasha was comfortable, Kagome began again. "Okay,
these are the brakes. When you squeeze them, the wires go down to these little
clamps and stop the wheels from turning. If you want to slow down, clamp down
the brakes lightly. If you stop the wheels from turning going downhill,
you’ll fall because the bike will stop too suddenly." Kagome waited
while Inuyasha experimented with the brakes. Kagome saw that he’d have to
squeeze them lightly and not use his full strength.
"You push
the pedals with your feet and the training wheels balance for you." Kagome
pointed down the driveway. "Go ahead." Inuyasha glanced at her. He
set both feet on the pedals and pushed them gently. The bike went a few inches
and stopped. He glared at her. "You have to keep pushing them,"
Kagome added helpfully.
Inuyasha tried
again. Soon he was rolling around the yard at breakneck speeds. "When do
we take these things off?" he asked Kagome.
Kagome
shrugged. "Maybe a few days. Whenever you can balance right."
Inuyasha got
off the bike and walked toward the house. Kagome blinked. "Hey!" She
called to him. "I can’t be outside without you, you know!"
Inuyasha
stopped and waited for her to put the bike inside before going in. She had to
run to catch up. "If you want me dead, there are easier ways," she
panted.
Inuyasha
turned and looked at her. "Like what?" he asked.
Kagome gulped.
A glint had run across Inuyasha’s eyes that she really didn’t like.
"Chocolate," she squeaked and ran off to her room.

~*Ally*~:
Well, it wouldn't be much of a story if Inuyasha didn't like Kagome in the end.
Like-anyother:
*Shrug* I don't know. I just thought trains would be interesting. Haven't seen
anyone else do any trains.
