KoRn Biographies

HEAD

Brian Welch: guitar, vocals. BIRTHDATE: 6/19/70. BIRTHPLACE: Torrance, California. Head is one of the guitar players for Korn. He is often the most humorous member of the group, and Bud Light is his friend. On the DVD "Deuce" Munky states that Head should have his own sitcom on tv, and Jonathan says that he drinks beer in the shower. Both Head and Munky play with 7-string guitars, tuned very low to: ADGCFAD. This tuning makes for very low power chords, and along with 24 frets, screaming highs and eerie riffs that are a trademark of Korn's sound. During live shows Head often provides back-up vocals for Jonathan, but no longer does it for their recordings. Head usually plays the lead parts on his guitar and puts voicings around the chords Munky is playing. Along with Munky, the two guitarists make an unstoppable duo.

FIELDY

Reginald Arvizu: Bass. BIRTHDATE: 11/2/69. BIRTHPLACE: Bakersfield, California. Fieldy provides the pounding bass for Korn. He brings his own style to the world of metal today, using his bass as more of a percussion intstrument. His style involves alot of slap which brings a little bit of the hip hop element to Korn's sound. He says that as long as he's got a good beat going, the notes don't matter too much to him when he plays. Fieldy plays a 5-string bass tuned to ADGCF and always has a heavy, low range tone. He has a signature model bass that he designed with Ibanez, called the K-5. When Fieldy is not spending time with his daughters or with Korn, he's out partying, drinking, pimping, getting stoned, etc. Fieldy has always been a big fan of rap, and he has released his own solo hip hop album, titled "Fieldy's Dreams."

JONATHAN DAVIS

Jonathan "HIV" Davis: vocals, bagpipes. BIRTHDATE: 1/18/71 BIRTHPLACE: Bakersfield, California. Unlike some bands these days, Korn's lyrics are heart felt and emotional. Jonathan Davis is Korn's singer obviously, and he doesn't just write about losing a girlfriend for every song. Jonathan's lyrics are fueled by all the pain he has gone throughout his life, ranging from his childhood and onto the band's multi-platinum third album, Follow The Leader. Jonathan's past is one big cause for the anger and frustration he writes about. Although at some times the lyrics can be very depressing, alot of people can relate to Jonathan's feelings, and the lyrics can have a significant meaning to fans. Subjects of the lyrics can even be from child abuse, such as their song "Daddy", which Jonathan cannot perform live, as it is too emotionally draining for him. On Korn's first home video, "Who Then Now," Munky says that there is not a night onstage when Jonathan is not feeling his lyrics and singing from his heart, and that this type of singing is hard to find. Currently, Jonathan has been taking voice lessons. He says he wants to be remembered as a good singer. At first Jonathan did not care very much for his voice, but that has also changed. On the band's latest album, "Untouchables," Jonathan says that he is still just as angry as he was since their self-titled album, but he feels he does not need to show it as much. Also on the album, there is the absence of his bagpipes, which have been on every Korn album up until "Untouchables." Jonathan has also recently took part in the film, "Queen Of The Damned." He was the singing voice of the main character (I don't recall his name). Along with Richard Gibbs, they also composed the score for the movie's soundtrack. Jonathan was not able to sing on the album because of legal issues, but he did write all of the lyrics and handpick every musician he wanted to work and record with. Some of them were Marilyn Manson, David Draiman from Disturbed, and Jay Gordon from Orgy.
