Information, resources and support for the blind and visually impaired from the Sioux Land Informational Group for the Blind.

WHAT IS SIGB?

SIGB, Siouxland Informational Group for the Blind, is a nonprofit, dues-free, association of visually impaired and

blind individuals. Since 1993, SIGB's goals have

been to provide easier

access to employment and

the workplace for its members. The discussion of issues; the collection and free dissemination of

information, as well as the sharing of personal experiences make our meetings

attractive and enjoyable.

WHEN DOES SIGB MEET?

SIGB meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 2 PM till 5 PM.

WHERE DOES SIGB

MEET?

SIGB usually meets at St. Luke's Hospital, 27th & Pierce St., Sioux City, Iowa in Lower Level Meeting Rooms. Other sites SIGB has used include: the Sioux City Public Library, Bacon Creek Park, the Riverboat Inn, and local restaurants.

WHAT DOES SIGB DO?

We are a social support group as well as an organization that provides information

to empower the blind to be successful.

Often, we discuss and/or

investigate various issues

affecting the blind. SIGB

publishes a monthly news-letter, provides a "refresher" Braille course, and maintains a prerecorded information phone line. SIGB has sponsored several "Tech Day" programs featuring the cutting-edge in technological help for the

blind (CCTVs, Braille writers, scanners,

reading and talking computers, etc.).

SIGB also sponsors special events, such as "White Cane Day" (October 15) with the mayor and other notables. SIGB visits schools, Girl Scouts, and other organizations, with teams of blind persons to educate our youth. To make attending meetings easier, SIGB provides free van service to and from all SIGB functions.

WHO CAN JOIN SIGB?

Anyone interested in sup-

porting the visually impaired or blind to improve their individual-

situations are welcome at SIGB. Besides the visually impaired, or blind, this can include family members, friends and other good-hearted community members.
