A short while after her return she received a phonecall from her friend and boss Leah, asking her to come to her office, for she needed a word with her. Ruby didn't suspect anything yet, but when she arrived at Leah's office she had a great shock. Leah showed her some of the files Ruby handled right before she went to Paris to marry her Joseph. It appeared that she has screwed things up and Leah is forced to fire Ruby. Since the young pregnant woman has gone through a great deal, this is the last drop for her. She gets dizzy and finally collapses in front of her boss' eyes. Leah makes sure she gets to a hospital safely and there Ruby hears she needs to watch out, for she could lose her baby...
Even though the redhead was assured she would be safe, she stayed cautious and nervous. Her new angelic friend Zacharael kept an eye on her, just in case. At first Ruby was extremely annoyed by this, but when she was dining at a restaurant and it was attacked by zombies, she was happy he was there. Ruby knew that if she would use magick, she would risk paradox and that could be harmful to her unborn son. Zacharael and Ruby fled to the rooftop of the restaurant, overlooking the city and finding it full of the living dead. An unfamiliar voice is heard behind them...a dark man appears with magical powers. Ruby is quite intrigued by this man, not knowing what he is. She suspects him to be a Mage, but his powers seem dark...even though he helps her and Zach. The red mystic stays cautious to him and makes her way home.
Not very long later her friend Leah would marry and of course Ruby attended the wedding, finding the dark man from the rooftop is Leah's husband...Ruby is surprised, but says nothing. Though she doesn't really trust this...
Another thing others the redhead...her blonde husband has dissapeared right after her return to New York. Through the bond they share she knows he is alive and well, but she doesn't get any responses to her telepathical calls. Now and then he appears at their home, but the tension between them is almost unbearable. With one of their fights, Joseph almost looses himself and is about to hit Ruby, who still carries their son. Joseph manages to pull himself together. When he locks himself up in the bedroom, Ruby feels that her senses are warning her. When she opens the bedroom she finds Joseph trying to cut out the taint in his chest. Knowing that he could kill himself, Ruby stops him and tells him she would always love him. Joseph seems clearly confused...more and more each day.
Again he dissapears for a longer time. It takes a month for him to come home. He tells Ruby he needed to help a friend, but that he wouldn't leave so long again. Happy that he is home, the woman trusts him and leaves it as it is. Until their friend Sacrifice arrives at the very same night, telling them her fear for the dissapearance of her own wife. Joseph offers Sacrifice that he would help her find Savvy and Ruby gets angry. Knowing if Joseph would leave, she would be alone again for a long time. Besides, the baby wouldn't be very long from now...Again the couple fight and again they make up. Though Ruby is slowly starting to lose her patience...
Again Joseph has to go and Ruby starts to feel sad and lonely more and more. Yet again isolating herself from the outworld. When Sacrifice visits her one evening together with her daughter Cinder, Ruby starts to feel nervous and slightly scared. Her sixth sense doesn't prove her wrong when the same man from Bernie's blasts her door open. Ruby is protected by Sac and before she knows it Priest appears in her apartment, fighting the man named Huang. Ruby doesn't understand this all, certainly since she didn't know any better than that Priest was an enemy, but right now she has to admit she is thankful to him.
At this time Ruby's water breaks and the two man stop fighting and take a run instead. Fortunately the angelic Jade Rivers helps her deliver the baby together with Sac. Ruby is in pain, but brings a healthy baby-boy to the world named Jareth Halfyard.
