Loch Ness Monster (Nessie)
Height: 23-30 Feet
Length: 28-30 Feet
Indentifying Features: Usually said to look exactly like a plesiosaur (small dinosaur head, long neck large body, flippers instead of feet)

The Loch Ness monster is probably one of the most famous monsters of all time, the lake itself is 23 miles long, 1 mile wide, and in places over 900 feet deep! The first known sighting of the Loch Ness Monster was supposedly in 565 AD by a Catholic missionary, Saint Columba, it's said that one of his followers was going out for a swim when a large, long neck came out of the water and tried to kill the follower. Legend has it that Saint Columba used the power of prayer to compell the monster to go back down into the depths of the Loch, and it did. From then until 1931 the sightings had completely stoped until 1931 when a road was built along side the loch and trees were cleared, sightings were reported by the hundreds! Then once again the sightings had nearly but all stopped. In February of 1961 Torquil Macleod was on a private monster hunting expidition when he seen the monster on the shore on dry land (making this the first sighting of it beeing on land), he was qouted saying:

"I had a clear view of its left fore flipper which is grey in color and spade shaped... I confess to being rather appalled at its size, somehow the dimensions have never sunk in, but there is no doubt in my mind that this individual was of the order of 20-50 feet in length."

One theory of why "Nessie" would be on land is that it comes to shore to lay its eggs in the sand. From then on the sightings just starting increasing, since then, there are an average of 489 reported sightings per year of Nessie.
