Then.... there was a knock.
Finally I can stop waiting in this misery and see the one I love again. Well, maybe I wouldn't go as far as love, but I do have a big crush on her I guess.
I leapt up off my bed, and darted down the stairs to the door, but when I got there it was too late. Avery had beat me to it. She opened the door, and lo and behold, stood Quaker and her grandmother. Quaker had dressed up to come to dinner. Does this show that she cares about the way she looks around me or something? Or does it show that her grandmother made her dress up? I hope she dressed up for me.
"Hello!" my sister greeted them in a candy coated voice. That's the voice she puts on when she wants to trick people into thinking that she's nice and sweet. It's all an act might I remind you. "You must be Isabella and Quaker. We were expecting you. Why don't you come into our humble abode and make yourselves at home. Did I mention my name is Avery?"
Dear gosh, she sounds like a flight attendant. Couldn't you just picture her on a plane saying over the loud speaker 'Hello, my name is Avery Hanson, and welcome to flight 111 of Delta airlines. At this time, I will ask you all to fasten your safety belts, and if you feel nauseated, there is an air sick bag in the seat in front of you.'
"Hello Avery! I am so very pleased to meet you! Thank you for being so kind to us. You seem like a sweet little girl!" Isabella said.
Avery flashed her, 'I'm a cute little demon' smile, and led them into the dining area, where they met most of the rest of the family. My father showed them to their seats.
"Quaker, we'll put you next to Zac, since you already know him." I heard him say to Quaker.
Alright dad! It was now time for and and my brothers to make our grand entrance.
"Okay, lets go. Walk slowly as to not look to giddy, but walk swift enough to not look to bored." I said very nervously. I was actually starting to sweat. I hope I don't smell. Or worse yet, I hope I don't have huge sweat stains under my arms! Wait, which would be worse? Stains, or stench? There both pretty bad. "By the way guys, which is worse? Reeking of B.O.? Or having huge sweat stains under your arms?"
"Definitely the B.O." Issac said. Taylor agreed with him.
Alright then, it's unanimous. I must not smell. If I sit next to her she might keel over. Just to be on the safe side before entering the dinning room, I quickly ran upstairs and applied more deodorant. Hey, at least I care what I smell like.
I came downstairs to find that everyone was in the dinning room already. My brothers didn't wait for me. Those little poo poo nuggets! They'll get there's later.
I slowly entered the room. As soon as I did, everyone stopped what they were doing, and stared at me. I felt really out of place, but acted like I didn't. I slowly and calmly walked to my seat and sat down. Avery flashed me the 'I've got a secret' look. I just made a face at her.
"Now if everyone will join hands, we can all say grace." My mother said in her soothing motherly voice.
Everyone obeyed by taking the hand of the person next to them. I just happened to be sitting next to Quaker.
I slowly and very lightly took her hand in mine. It was small compared to my own oversized hands. I had many blisters from playing the drums on my stubby fingers. She did not. Her hand was soft and delicate like my baby sister's.
She lightly gripped my hand in the slightest way, and it sent shivers up my spine. Man, why am I enjoying this so much.
She gave me a weird look when I shivered, and dropped her hand so it was just me who was holding it up. I sensed that she didn't want to hold my hand. I would of let go if it was under different circumstances, but not here, and definitely not when mom was saying grace. That's a no-no. That's like stepping with your full weight on a lion's paw, and then wondering why it bit your foot off.
My grandmother and I walked up to the Hanson's front door. I put on my best 'happy' face. First impressions are always the ones that stay. I didn't want the rest of the family to think I was some evil monster or something. I only wanted Zac to think that.
My grandmother rang the bell, and a little girl answered the door. She was cute, and even at first glance you could tell that her and Zac were definitely related. I guess that could be a compliment. I mean, Zac ain't all that bad looking. I guess.
The little girl introduced herself as Avery, and then led us to the dining room, where her father seated us. Looking around, I saw endless amounts of blonde hair. There were about 3 girls and a boy, and Mr. and Mrs. Hanson. There were 3 vacant seats next to me that were bothering me. I was wondering who was going to fill them.
Right after I had that thought, two giddy teenage boys stumbled into the room muttering something about body odor. Their mother gave them that evil mother death look and they immediately shut up and sat down in two of the three seats leaving the one next to me empty. I looked around trying to determine who was missing, when the thought finally dawned on me that they put Zac next to me! Oh dear gosh! "So where is your brother?" Mr. Hanson asked the two boys that just came in. I would later find out that their names are Isaac and Taylor.
"He went upstairs to um....do something." Taylor said. He was a tall, gangly boy, with deep blue eyes, and dirty blonde hair that was cut short and layered. He might have looked good with a hair cut like Zac's. Not that I like long blonde hair on guys or anything, I just think that he might look nice.
"Yeah, he'll be down in a second." added Isaac. He was the oldest one of them all. You could tell from the way he looked. Plus his voice had that certain ring of maturity in it. He had neatly combed hair, the same color as his brothers, that was cut short just above his ears. He also had brown eyes and a very pundit grin that displayed all his teeth and gums. He wasn't too bad looking if I do say so myself.
Just as Isaac closed his mouth, I heard pounding footsteps on the stairs. Once they ceased, there was a pause, and Zac strolled slowly into the room. He gave Avery a weird look, and then took his seat next to me. I could hear him breathing heavily from his flight down the stairs.
I sat there for a little bit watching his chest rise up and down as he regained his normal breathing pattern. I think it is amazing how the human body operates by itself. There are so many different little wonders in it. It's like, if you wanted to bend your fingers down into the palm of your hand, you just do it. You don't know how you did it, but you did. Your brain somehow sent messages to your hand telling it to move that way. I think that is remarkable. Just like Zac ran down the flight of stairs, his body realized that his heart needed to pump more blood and take in more air in order to survive at that pace, without him even being aware that his body knew that. Once it realized he was done, it sent his breathing pattern back to normal. I think that is remarkable. I love to study humans when they don't know that I'm studying them.
"Now if everyone will join hands, we can all say grace." Mrs. Hanson interrupted my thoughts. Man, the last time I said grace was the last time I sat down together with my family. I mean like my real family as in mother, father, brother. That was a good feeling. It bought back many memories.
Zac looked at my hand shyly for a minute. I wonder what he was thinking. I slowly held my hand out to him, and he took it. After all, we were praying. Some almighty force might strike me with a lightning bolt if I didn't let him hold my hand.
Mrs. Hanson stared praying. During the middle of the prayer I started tuning her out, and began to notice things, such as Zac's hand. For some strange reason beyond my power, when I was holding his hand, I wanted to reach out and touch him also. I don't know why, but I wanted to hug him. Right at that moment, the words of a song that I heard once flashed through my mind. It by was Lee Ann something. I think Womack. It went
I thought about this, but I was scared. I couldn't do it. Besides, these are just stupid feelings. I don't like Zac or anything. I guess it's just holding a guy's hand brings back memories of my brother, and I like those memories.
After Mrs. Hanson was done with grace, everyone ate dinner. All throughout that time, there was a ton of noise of the many different conversations going on around me. I wonder if it is always like this around here. During that time, I couldn't hear the noise. I blocked it out with my own thoughts. I was thinking about all the things with my family, and trying to figure out why I had that feeling towards Zac, the person who I figured out in my mind that I hated from the first time I laid eyes on him.
Before I knew it, dinner was over, and everyone was clearing out of the dinning room, and into the living room for a bit of a chat. I followed my grandmother like a faithful little doggy.
When I got in there, I looked around, but Zac was nowhere to be seen. I guess he is too good to be with his family. Jerk.
I sat down for a while, and had a conversation with a little boy named Mackie about Tomb Raider and Pokemon. Thrilling subject huh? I decided I needed to get out of there. I walked up to Mr. Hanson.
"Hey smiley!" he said. I tried not to shutter. "What can I help you with?"
"Um... can I use your bathroom?" I asked. I really didn't need to go to the bathroom, just to get away from this chaos.
"Sure can! It's right up those stairs and through the boy's lounge. You can't miss it."
"Thanks."
I walked up the stairs and followed the directions he gave me. It lead me right through this room with a TV, stereo, toys, and a few different video game systems. Just as I got to the bathroom door, I heard familiar music blasting at me. I turned around and walked to it. The sound led me to a closed, white door with a picture on it the read in little kids handwriting "Isaac, Taylor, and Zac's Bedroom. Caution! Girls will be attacked by giant bugs if the enter!" It was so old that it was starting to turn yellow. I had a feeling that Zac was behind that door, and that was where the music was coming from.
