The furry creatures we know as dogs are usually referred to as "man's best friend". These amazing creatures can be useful in many ways. Dogs can be trained to help a blind individual get around or can be used for police work; uncovering dead bodies, sniffing out fugitives and many other useful services. Dogs have also provided companionship, they have herded sheep, guarded property and hunted with their owners. We need to take a stand to stop animal abuse. If we don't, this species will no longer be willing to aid us in many important tasks. Please, join me and take a stand, against animal abuse.

Is Adopting a dog right for you?

Throughout history, domesticated dogs have befriended and helped human beings in all kinds of ways. Dogs have provided companionship, herded sheep, guarded property, hunted with their owners, and fought in wars. Some dogs have been trained to detect narcotics, find missing persons, and help the handicap. If you keep a dog as a Pet, you're less likely to become lonely or depressed. Perhaps your dog might even save your life one day. Many heroic dogs have earned medals for pulling their owners from burning buildings, saving them from drowning, and fending off intruders. While there's no question that owning a dog can enrich your life, adopting a dog is a serious commitment. On average, a dog lives about 12 years-some breeds live even longer. You can't just drop your dog off at a shelter when you tire of it. Shelters are filled with dogs that no one wants. Most of these dogs are humanely euthanized. Owning a dog should be a lifetime commitment. Owning a dog costs money. To begin, you have to pay for the dog itself. Purebred puppies cost anywhere from $250 to $500 or more! Even if you adopt a dog from a shelter, you'll have to make a donation. After you pay for your dog, you'll have to pay for his veterinary care. If your dog isn't spayed or neutered, you'll have to pay for this surgery. Expect to pay at least $100 a year for routine services--much more if your dog gets sick or hurt. Dogs need supplies too. Your dog will need food, a collar, a leash, an ID tag, a brush, a comb, nail clippers, dishes, toys, and a crate for training and car rides. And your dog might also have to be professionally groomed and boarded from time to time. You also need to ask yourself whether you have time to care for a dog. Dogs need attention and training. You can't just let your dog roam the streets unsupervised. You have to devote a portion of each day to caring for your dog. And no dog is perfect. Just like people, all dogs have their faults. You need patience to deal with your dog's idiosyncrasies. However, if you think you can invest the time and money needed to care for a dog, adopting a dog might be one of the best decisions you'll ever make.
