RCMP Cracks Down on Hackers

(WINDSOR) In a series of sweeping raids the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Computer Crimes Division (RCMP/CCD) made seventeen arrests today. The targets were hackers operating in the Windsor-area. What started off a month ago as an investigation by City Officials into phone fraud quickly uncovered a large underground of hi-tech criminals. The information was passed on to the RCMP/CCD and they rapidly put it use in what led up to the arrests today. A spokesman for the RCMP/CCD stated in a press confrence that these arrests are just the beginning in their crack down on computer-saavy criminals.

Hacker Groups Retaliate to RCMP Arrests

(WINDSOR) In response to Thursdays arrests by the RCMP, local hacker groups unleashed retaliatory strikes against government agencies. Thirty-Two website defacements and twelve denial of service attacks (DoS) knocked out various city government servers over the last two days. The web was not the only target of these hackers, Friday evening a hacker group that calls itself "the Chaos Killers" gained illegal access to the city power grid and shut down the power surrounding the Ambassador Bridge for close to three hours. There was no comment from the RCMP/CCD beyond that they were investigating the wave of attacks.

Underworld War Errupts in Windsor

(WINDSOR) Last night underworld criminals of the Triads gunned down rival Italian Mob figures at a posh art gallery opening in the downtown area. It is assumed that this is linked to the current underworld problems between the Chinese Triads and Italian Mob in Chicago. Thirty-eight people were killed in the massacre as eight hooded gunmen stormed into the gallery and started shooting. The unfortunate side effect is that the vast majority of the gallery-goers were innocent bystanders. Windsor Police were quick to respond and intercepted the gunmen as they exited the gallery. Shots were exchanged between the two groups and when the smoke cleared five Triads were dead and the remaining three were seriously wounded, there were no casualties among the police involved. The injured Triads were taken to the Essex County Hospital and placed under heavy guard.

Gun Battle at the Ambassador Bridge

(WINDSOR) Ambassador Bridge Special Response Teams (SRTs) were involved in a shoot out with arms smugglers last night on the Windsor-side of the Bridge. The gun battle errupted shortly after power was lost at the bridge. It appears that the power loss "spooked" the smugglers into thinking that they had been found out so they abandoned their vehicles and attempted to storm past the customs area into the city-proper in an attempt to escape. The Special Response Teams acted immediately and pinned down the smugglers as they came off the bridge. In the short and savage gun battle that ensued the highly trained SRT members killed the ten criminals but at the cost of 3 SRT members who valiantly sacrificed themselves by putting themselves between the smugglers hail of gunfire and innocent civilians. Crates of illegal weapons were found in the two trucks the smugglers were driving, these were quickly secured by the bridge customs officials. A full investigation has begun to answer the many questions surrounding this bloody confrontation.

Movie Shoot Terrifies Locals

(WINDSOR) Windsor Mall employees were suprised last night when they unknowingly witnessed the filming of a new Horror film by Moonlight Productions, a subsidiary of the Adonis Foundation. The movie, whose title is still a secret at this time, is an original screenplay writen by reclusive best-selling horror author Vincent Drake.

Due to mis-communications between the owners of the mall and the store-owners the employees, unaware that it was just a movie being filmed, fled in terror at the apparent carnage they came across as they closed down for the night. The scene involved actors in demonic-looking costumes battling with the films heros and a large 30-foot long animitronic Crocodile affectionately called "Billy" by the films cast and crew (best know for his starring role in the horror movie "Lake Placid").

The Owners of the Mall apologized to the store-owners and sited that due to a clerical error they had forgotten to inform them of the filming. Many factors added to the confusion beyond this. One was the sudden power outage that hit during filming which caused several pyrotechnic effects to go off prematurely as well as sending a power surge to "Billy" which caused his operators to loose control of him until they were able to shut him down. These events, added to the ultra-realistic blood and gore effects made for an absolutely terrifying scene to those caught off guard and unaware.

Enraged employees contacted lawyers to file a law suit against Moonlight Productions for the emotional distress they had to endure. In response a spokesman for the Adonis Foundation held a press-conference this morning and stated that the Foundation would pay for any physical damage that occured to the mall during the filming and that all the proper paperwork and permits had been filed with the City Clerks Office over two months ago, and then proceeded to produce copies for the press to view. With this being said, the employees have shifted their law suit to the Owners of the Mall.

Moonlight Productions plans to resume shooting the movie in and around Windsor and hope to be finished within the next two months with principle photography.

Found on Page 1 of the Health and Fitness section:

Have you been having nightmares about events you witnessed last Friday night? Have you told friends stories about what you've seen only to be laughed at? Or has a friend been telling you exaggerated stories of these events? Dr. Nancy O. Reage has help for you!

A new outpatient study has begun concerning the effects of the minor neurological condition termed "Media Affective Disorder". This condition, discovered by the team of psychologists at the Windsor-Essex County Sanitarium, makes an individual confronted by a highly stressful or violent situation subconsciously enhance or exaggerate the events they have seen.

"Our research began by studying survivors or kidnappings and rape. We found that the victims frequently reported their captors having almost supernatural characteristics. When we expanded our research, we found the same thing through interviewing witnesses of armed robberies and muggings. Many reported that it was as though time were standing still and events around them were moving quite fast. Clearly, they were in a state of shock. Witnesses of gunshots reported seeing others grievously injured when, in fact, the most serious injury was a mild grazing," said Dr. Nancy O. Reage, head of the Clinical Psychology department and head chairperson on the hospital board of operations.

She continued, "Later, study revealed that there was a direct correlation between the amount of violence one viewed through media and these cases of exaggeration. The more violent movies one watched, violent television programs watched, or violent video games played, the more likely the witnesses were to report unnatural scenes to the police. We believe that subconsciously, these individuals were superimposing what they had watched on screen in either a movie, TV or video game to the traumatic events they had witnessed. As violence increases in movies and on TV, we expect to see many more of these cases."

Dr. Reage says that events such as gang wars or the unexpected horror movie filming could provoke the disorder. "I wouldn't doubt it if we have a number of cases come to us this week and our statistics show that for every case we get there are at least 8 more unreported. I am especially concerned with the incident at the Mall. It seems that sometimes moviemakers will go to any length to drum up publicity for an upcoming film. I hope this is not a continuing trend or we might have more work than we can handle."

"Given the events last Friday, we are pushing up the timetable on a new comprehensive study of treatment. We are offering outpatient counseling sessions free of charge as a community service. We would like to thank the generous financial contributions of local Windsor businesses for their help. We have found that by talking about the events witnessed to a trained clinician, the subject recovers their sense of the reality of the situation quite rapidly."

If you have witnessed troubling events or known anyne who has, please contact the Windsor-Essex County Sanitarium c/o Dr. Nancy O. Reage concerning "Media Affective Disorder." The treatment consists solely of sessions speaking with a councilor at times of a patient's convenience. No drugs are involved and it is completely confidential. Call (877) 555-1243 for more information.

In the Entertainment section of the newspaper excerpted from a local opinion column by "Media Girl":

...And in other news, insiders report the as yet-to-be-named movie, whose filming caused such a commotion last Friday, has some prominent actors in addition to the writing talent of the best-selling author Vincent Drake.

My sources claim that Bruce Campbell, Christopher Walken, Billy Idol and Dee Snider (the lead singer of the 80's rock band Twisted Sister) have signed on with the movie. Details of their roles or character names have not been released.

Way to go, Moonlight Pictures!!!
