  • The 1960s: A Prelude of Things to Come

The social and political turmoil across the United States during the 60s heralded many changes among the ranks of the undead. It saw the ranks of the Anarchs swell to dangerous levels as well as an increased aggressiveness of the Sabbat to expand its holdings. The unchanging ways of the Camarilla would be tested time and again during this period as it struggled to maintain it's power base in North America.

The early 60s saw the fall of many Camarilla cities to the Anarch Movement along the west coast. This was a terrible blow to the power of the Camarilla in maintaining control of North America and it lost much in the ways of mortal influence and power over that section of the continent.

By the mid 60s the Sabbat were steadily advancing west out of their strongholds in Pennsylvania seizing Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown in Ohio from the Camarilla. While these where minor cities in comparison to Chicago and Detroit, they seriously demoralized the Camarilla. For all the cities it lost, the Camarilla was not without it's own victories. Almost immediately after the stinging loses in Ohio the Camarilla dealt a serious blow to the Sabbat by successfully assaulting and seizing both Toronto and Ottawa in Ontario (both of which had been important powerbases for the Sabbat) in less than 2 months. The assaults were lead by the Legendary Gangrel Warlord Colbey Thorson. Both sides then settled down to consolidate their new holdings and plot their next moves in the great jyhad. At the fall of 1968 all contact was lost with the Camarilla cities of Toledo and Detroit. The scouts that were sent to investigate never returned and it was presumed that the Sabbat had taken them.

    The History of Detroit

The Detroit/Windsor area had been firmly under Camarilla control pretty much since its founding. It's only prince had been an "old world" Ventrue by the name of Etienne Durocher. A French noble during his mortal life, he was embraced in the late 17th century. An excellent leader and organizer, Detroit/Windsor profitted and prospered under his rule and became a gleaming example of Ventrue pride, prestige and power throughout the Camarilla. His only fault was that he clung tenaciously to his mortal values of a class structure, the nobility ruled and the peasantry served without question. These values would prove to be his undoing. He treated those beneath him with contempt (because none of them were noble-born), which alienated him from the Primogen of the various clans within the city.

    The Calm Before the Storm

In the spring of 69 a Toreador by the name of Katlyn stumbled into the outskirts of Toronto, bloody and bruised but alive. She claimed to be from Detroit and that she needed to talk to the Prince. She was quickly escorted to a private audience with the Brujah Prince Yvonne Reznik and Warlord Thorson (who was in Toronto planning the conquest of Montreal and Quebec). Immediately thereafter, the Warlord gathered as many of his troops as he could (as well as any volunteers) and within two weeks was ready to depart for Windsor.
