Jean-Luc is known for is short temper when dealing with people who have violated the traditions. He is very respectful most of the time, although that respect occasionally vanishes when he is investigating someone. He is quite eager to learn more about being a vampire and loves to increase is natural powers/abilities. He keeps a pet crocodile named "Billy" who enjoys a good game of "fetch the whatever". Around women, his French ancestry shows as he tries to be suave, and when he fails (which is usually the case, as he is apparently descended from the non-sauve Cajun bloodline), he tends to play it off as a joke.
