Questioning Christians About the Cross Symbol

Whenever I see certain number of christians going around and showing support for their religion, they use the "cross" symbol to do this. Many christians (and other people from religions that is almost related to them like Judaism) I know of always wear little crosses around their necks and have crosses on top of their churches and on walls in the churches. Also, many of them also uses cross shape tombstone when honoring their dead loved ones instead of using regular tombstone. In short the cross symbol is the symbol that christians uses to show support for their religion and to show their love for Jesus Christ.

The point that I'm trying to make here is I think that many christians using the cross symbol to show their support for their religion is kind of sick and morbid to me. Here is why I think this.........

The christian cross symbol was derived from the fictional character names Jesus Christ that according to the bible have died for mankind sins by being crucified by the romans on a giant wooded shaped cross (we all know that there is no such proof that either Christ nor any event such as this happened, but bare with me here please). Now many people that believed he existed is showing their love for him and his actions by wearing little crosses around their necks.

Many christians out there will have to excuse me as this doesn't make any sense to me at all. Why would people that love this Christ character so much would honor him by putting crosses around their neck, using the cross symbol as a representation to him after he died on a wooden shaped cross according to their bibles?

Shouldn't showing a symbol of a device that help killed their savior be a form of disrespect?

If someone's mother died of a gunshot wound, do that person honor their mother by wearing a bullet around their neck? If someone's dad died by being stabbed in the heart, is that person suppose to honor their dad by keeping the bloody knife as a symbol of his death?

Then why does it make sense for christians to use the cross symbol as a representative of their religion when their savior died from a device that was crossed shaped created by the romans?

I am aware that using the example of someone's loved ones like their mother, dad, wife, husband, friend, etc. and comparing it to the christians love of the character Christ is probably a incorrect analogy. There is no religion forming around anyone's mother or father, nor does anyone's mother or father claimed to have died for mankind's sins. However, it just seem so strange to me that christians would use the cross symbol to honor their savior and to represent their religion, when in fact it should be a form of disrespect to them because according to their bibles Christ died by the hand of the romans when they tied him up to wooden shape cross called a crucifixion and nailed him to it.

I wonder what would happened if Christ had died by other means like the electric chair, falling off a cliff, or beaten by a number of people, what symbol would christians be using to represent their religion then? A electric chair around their necks or on top of their churches perhaps?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to defend a fictional character like Mr. Christ. Anyone like Jesus who thinks it's okay to set man against each other, call people fool even though we are not allowed to be called fools, and do something stupid like curse a fig tree probably deserves to be nailed to a cross.

To be fair, not all christians do adore the "cross" symbol and certain christian sects like Jehovah Witnesses for instance don't use it at all. However, it just seems so weird that many christians have to honor their savior in such and wierd and demented manner.

A Question for Christians About Artwork of Jesus' Crucifixion

Another topic that I want to talk about regarding the christians love for this fictional character named Jesus Christ is that I've seen some christians that are artists show respect for this character by painting pictures of Christ being crucified and hanging them on churches, in their homes, in a art museum, etc. There are some christians that also have statues of Christ being crucified as well in their churches too. I seen many of those statues in the local cemetery (talk about honor and paying respect for the dead).

The problem that I have with this is the similar problem that I have with them using the cross symbol as a symbol to represent their religion and show their love for Christ.

Why would certain number of christians go around and have paintings, statues, and other types of artwork of Jesus Christ being crucified in churches, homes, art museums and other places if they love this guy so much?

Again with the similar (and probably incorrect) analogy, If someone's brother died in a hit and run, does it make any sense for that person to honor their brother by painting a picture of him being run over by a car?

Earlier this year (in 2003) on an atheist Web Tv/MSN tv discussion group, I got complaints from someone that is a christian about a artwork from the Death Metal band called *Deicide* that have Jesus being dissected with his organs being seperated in a white background on my email signature. I know that many christians would find me to be sick, morbid, and very disrespectful to them because of me posting that picture in my email signature everyday. However, what I don't understand is why would they get upset at me posting a picture like that in my email when in fact most of these people are probably showing disrespect to their own savior by wearing crosses around their neck of a device that helped killed their savior, and going around having paintings and statues of him being crucified?

Honestly, when many christians go around and do things like represent their religion and their love for their fictional characters in the bible in what I think is a negative manner, this is just one more reason why I question the religion and the people in it concerning their moral code and ethics.

Conclusion
One more thing that I should point out in closing this essay is would someone please explain to me why people honor a man hanging dead on a cross and then do stuff like paint pictures or create statues on him dying on the cross and wearing crosses around their necks is somehow normal behavior and why no one get mad at any of this? I've seen many artists that show pictures of a baby (a fetus) being aborted in a woman's womb at a art museum before and people bitch and complain about how sick and morbid that is (regardless of whatever the message that the artist is trying to tell us in their painting). So why do they not bitch and complain about the artwork of a guy dying on a cross? Also, if no one minds me getting a little off topic, why is this type of thing safe for children to see and read about this? If many christians do not want their children seeing violent movies, tv shows, and reading books with inappropriate topics where someone is shot with a gun or stab with a knife then why expose them tho seeing a picture or reading about a guy dying on the cross? Don't get wrong, I think eveyone is entitled to their opinion and beliefs no matter how wierd or stupid it sounds, but still it just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Also, even though I do not have full knowledge about other religions out there, I'm almost certain that Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans, and other religions not related to christianity do not go around wearing a symbol of a device that helped killed their deities and myth heroes either.
