STARGATE: SG-1

Archaeologists in love

Objectives by shalott is quite possibly the perfect execution of a very SG-1 slash scenario. Which is to say yeah, it's a cliche--but the thing about this fandom is that it was designed for the kind of PWP cliches that wouldn't go over half so well elsewhere, 'cause it's based on a show where the characters constantly fall victim to strange alien technology and are locked up and infected and subjected to mind control and knocked unconscious and encounter space/time anomalies on a regular basis... And the way it's done here is short, funny, and in character with killer dialogue and great sex. And then shalott wrote Reveille, which is longer and has a different cliche and a touch more angst, and which I also loved and highly recommend. [ask about recs for vids]

The Cost of a Used Spaceship by Marie Blackpool -- [I swear I remember writing this rec, but where did I save it? Please let it not be on the old hard drive]

The Steak series by Keiko Kirin -- I loved The Box and I was originally unsure as to whether to rec this entire series because I liked the earlier entries better than the later ones, but upon reflection and discussion I think that's due to my own issues with the pairing (because I tend to lose interest in stories where Jack and Daniel are experiencing any kind of domesticity--and honestly, it's not even just them, it's pretty much any fandom except maybe The Sentinel--unless there's also sufficient dark gritty angst of the kind which manages to avoid becoming fluffy hurt/comfort) than any lack in the storytelling, which was good throughout. I also realize that this is kind of a moot point because given how the first couple of stories sucked me in, there was no way I was going to stop reading and probably neither are you.

Into the Maelstrom by Molly -- This story is not without flaws (most notably the dialogue), but she gets into Daniel's head amazingly well and I liked the structure.

Time by Mandalee -- This was the first story I read in this fandom, thanks to Sandy's rec--I don't know if it was just that I had never watched the show or that I hadn't been exposed to new fandoms after I started doing my fan fiction reading online (since I could just search out the fandoms I wanted to read in, as opposed to picking up the occasional multimedia zine as I had in the past), but this story hooked me--I actually started catching the show occasionally after reading it, and was happy that there was as much snark in the show as there is in this fic. It's just sweet, classic slash, I thought the sex scene was hot, etc.

The Other Half by Anna -- I think this is the most ambitious of Anna's SG-1 stories, but you want to read them all, you really do. I have problems with her characterizations in a couple of places, but the writing is incredible and, Jack! That's all, but God, her Jack.

The Beggars' Ride by Russet McMillan -- SG-1 fan fiction has a lot of outstanding examples of this particular cliche, doesn't it? Do not miss this one.

Held by Thevetia -- This is probably one of my favorite pieces of fan fiction... Not everybody is into this sort of thing, but I am and this story is a great example of how to do it right. (Her other SG-1 stories are also well worth reading).

The Body Electric and Storms by Merry Lynne -- [add rec]

If the idea of Bridget Jones' Diary retold as a gay romp (sorry, I couldn't resist) with the SG-1 characters--or at least guys who bear enough of a passing resemblance to them to appeal to me--works for you, check out Anais' Dr. Jackson's Diary. It drags in places but is nonetheless hilarious and totally fed my craving for a Bridget Jones fix... Although apparently I'm not the only one who sees Major Davis as canonically being a hell of a lot more interested in Jack than the good Major ever was in Daniel (from what we saw onscreen, anyway).
