the rat's nest
So I finally got round to doing the sightseeing thing today, and where better to go than Perth's answer to Rothesay, Rottnest Island. They're actually both very similar, in that both are islands, in the middle of some water, though only one has tropical sunshine (clue:it's not Rothesay) There's so much to see and do on the island: you could go to Oliver Hill and see the gun emplacements and the tunnels left over from WWII. You could ride around the island's railway, go snorkelling, whale-watching, take a twenty-minute flight over the island, the possibilities are endless. Sadly, the first possibility I discovered was the Quokka Arms (hic!), so I perhaps didn't cram in quite as much as I could have done. I did manage to go on the Quakka Walk, a free guided tour around the island in search of their cuddly, inidigineuos marsupials. And, according to our wonderful guide Margo, we got super-lucky, cos we found loads hiding under the trees having their afternoon naps, awww! I managed to outfox her too, with 3 questions she'd never ever heard on a tour: How old do they grow? Why do they sleep on their tails? And can they swim? Any Quokka experts out there that might know the answers? The barstaff in the Quokka Arms certainly didn't know, but they did have Bundy and Coke on draught, so...
this is a Quokka, aren't they cute?
