our day with weezer

On June 6th, Skip,Vito, Jimmy, Matt and their close friends Gillian and Emmanuel left Staten Island to go see Weezer. The Virgin MegastoreŽ gave passes out to the first 250 people that bought the green album on May 15th. One way or another, evryone in this group had a pass. We all got to go see weezer and they were amazing. Here's the story with Pictures to go along with the Commentary


Vito was incredibly late that morning. Skip cut school that day to make sure he made it on time. he met Gillian in the terminal and they waited as two ferry's left before Mat showed up. a little later, Jimmy showed up. then, just as the 11:00 AM ferry was leaving, Vito arrived. we all departed the terminal and began our journey


well anyway, we made the 11:00 boat and were all very tired because we aren't usually very active at 11:00 in the morning. we all lay down to relax as the boat brought us closer to our destination. while on the boat, we ecountered John from Melmac(guitar and vocals) He wished us good luck in getting to Weezer(expressed anger at not being able to go himself) and also gave us good luck on our then upcoming June 8th show.(which we totally rocked at!)

after a long subway ride from Whitehall to Times Square, we arrived at the Virgin Megastore. We were some of the first people on line. the only people in front of us were friends of Gillian, by the end of the day we were all friends. by the time we got there and got settled, we were famished. Matt and Vito went to pick everybody up some McDonalds while the rest of us steadfastly held our positions at the front of the line.

we decided to promote the June 8th show by sticker one of our flyers to the Megatore with gum.It held on very well.

so we did make it into the store. the security guards gave a quick glance to our passes and let us down to another waiting area. we waited there for a while but it was OK because we were all so happy. we saw Karl(weezer's super cool roadie)walking around and we heard weezer's soundcheck, which just got us more hyped up.all of us up there were getting very antsy.

they let us down to the pit, but even though we were the first fans with passes down there, there were a bunch of press people there that didn't really like the weez standing in prime spotage. it was ok though, there was still only two people in front of me during the show. it took weezer a while to get out on stage after they let us down there, but i managed to get glimpses of them as they were relaxing before the show. I saw Pat so I screamed "Hey Pat" he heard me and gave me the rock music "Devil Horns" as they're sometimes called. he didn't even look up when he did this. but right after he did to see who it was who yelled. when he looked up i gave the sign back to him. it was a cool moment for me. Well... by and by, weezer came out and i finally for the first time ever got to see them live and in person.

so this was the moment we were all waiting for. after weezer played a great nine song set(Photograph,Island in the sun,knock-down drag-out,*burnt jamb*,*keep fishin*,tired of sex, buddy holly, the sweater song, and Hash Pipe.{*signifies new songs}) we were all told where to line up in order to meet weezer. About this point is when the day started to get a little sour. the Megastore security started to check if people had there green albums. If you were without a green album, then you had to get off the line and go home. Apparently, someone had been making and selling tons of fake passes and virgin had let way more people in then they had originally intended. Megastore seurity,through their infinite wisdom, decided that the only way to tell who was really supposed to be there, was to check to see if people had the green albums that they bought in order to get the pass in the first place. Matt, Gillian, and Emmanuel didn't have green albums. I thought quickly as the guard was coming over and gave Emmanuel my green album cover, while i retained the rest of the case. Matt and Gillian, weren't so lucky though. They were both kicked off. Gillian found her super cool friend Sarah,and took her extra green album. Gillian was saved , but Matt went upstairs. It was discovered later that Weezer had nothing to do with this Green album rule. Karl, tried to round up some of the straglers that were kicked off. He missed Matt though. In an act of defiance against the Megastore, Weezer signed anything that was given to them. Gillian had brought some pieces of patchwork for them to sign. they all did very happily. Rivers signed a paech that looked like a cat. His reply was"MeOW". Gillian also gave Pat and Rivers a defromed animal cracker that she had been saving for two weeks, the both chuckled and accepted the "gift". Jimmy got up to them next and had them sign the back piece to one of his guitars and also his green album.When he got to Mikey, Jimmy yelled at him for signing his name too big"How is anyone else supposed to sign!". i don't think Mikey liked that very much, but it was all OK. When he got to Rivers he told him about the weezer cover band whose website you're currently on. Rivers asked what the name was. Jimmy replied"half-japanese-girls" Rivers thought it was very cool. Ok, so next was me(Skip) I had only brought my green album for them to sign. i thought that it would be disrespectful to give Mikey a cd that he didn't play on. you weren't allowed to take any pictures as you were getting things signed, only before and after. so i took the pic aboe all of this writing right before i met them. Brian looked at me right before the flash and squinted right before i took it. I said "sorry i just blinded you" he said" it's ok, it's been happening all day".Next was Mikey. I was very excited to meet this new member of Weezer. i asked him " is it fun being in Weezer" He very sullenly, almost angrily replied "i guess" well, i guess Mikey's just a rockstar. I won't hold it against him. Next was Pat. I already knew that Pat was going to be Super cool. He said "Hi" to me first. i gave him my green album and told him that i had "the special goodness" album. he got so happy and thanked me for it. then i asked him if Rivers would ever let him wite some songs. He ducked his head down and put his had over his mouth and quickly told me "SHUSH! don't let him here you!" then he had a joking smile on his face. I gave Pat one of our flyers for the June 8th show at Dock Street. He got it and thought it was very cool. He said"hey Rivers, look at this" Rivers turned around saw it and his eyes also lit up he thought it was very cool too. Which brings me to Rivers, I gave him my green alum and told him more about the band and invited him to our show."we can't make it 'cuz we'll be in Canada then" he replied. As he was signing, i asked "do you think you'll ever make another "Pinkerton"?". He stopped writing and lifted his head. his reply was a sad face and a slow head shake "no". Pat overheard this and lifted up the mood by saying,"yeah, we'll call it Pinkerton 2!" we all shared a laugh and then i remembered Matt I quickly had Rivers sign my "Fan Pass" and then security made me go. they were all pretty nice people and i got to shake all of their hands.

when we all regrouped upstairs, we met up with Matt who was severely bummed out. I gave him my pass signed by Rivers and he seemed to cheer up a little. This is a picture of all of us with our signed Memoribillia.
we all felt so bad for Matt that we needed to get him up close to the Weez. He wanted to ask them if they liked,his favorite band,Public Enemy. We all headed to the back of the Megastore and waited for a while and this was the last picture on my roll. Matt's yelling "Do you like Public Enemy!?"It was a good end to an almost perfect day.

{Note: Weezer are all big Public Enemy Fans!, Matt e-mailed Karl, told him that he was one of the people that got kicked off the line and gave Karl his question that he was going to ask the band. Karl did and gave Matt the good reply. THANKS Karl}
