Transit of Venus

June 8, 2004 starting at 15:10, Melbourne time.

When I was about 10 years old, I was an astronomy geek, and I remember thinking
I would have to wait until I was over 50 to see the transit of Venus. Well, I got
to see it finally with a bunch of friends in Melbourne. It did not disappoint.

Trevor took this one too. That dark smudge between 12 and 1 o'clock
high up on the sun is the planet Venus.

Final glimpse from Trev's cam.

The transit crew with beasties.

Jeff, Stewie (beastie), munchkin, and Jen take a break from all the excitement.

He is looking forward to June 7, 2012 to see it all again.

Captain Cook, with avian friend, looks on. He saw it in Tahiti in 1769,
and then buggered off to the Great Southern Land, Australia.

Our Observation Post on the St. Kilda foreshore. We live here!

The transiting sunset with "Eye of Zeus" (Jen's projective test result).

Michelle, Henry, David, Trevor, and another beastie boy.

Students with scary supervisor.

The whole sick crew at the post-transit dinner. We will do it all again in 2012.
