       The TAC OFFICER screams, interrupting ANTILLES.

       COMMODORE ANTILLES stares out at the Imperial fleet.

       We see tiny yellow flashes.

       There is a pause.

       Then, the sky grows yellow.

       The screen turns completely yellow.

       Then, there is a moment of black accompanied with a soft 
       metallic chime.

       EXT. SPACE - NEIMOIDIAN HOMEWORLD

       The Neimoidian home planet sits in the center of the screen, 
       tiny yellow dots flashing about in orbit.

       New stars are born and die.

       INT. GARDEN - SUB-LEVEL 27 - WIDE SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND 
       SEE-THREEPIO

       The JEDI and the DROID walk on a gantry above a decaying 
       abandoned level.

       It is a cold dark place.  There is little light and little 
       warmth.

       Twisted wires and collapsed metal pipes and beams lay frozen 
       in time.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND SEE-THREEPIO

       THREEPIO leads OBI-WAN along the rickety catwalk.

       OBI-WAN wears a light white tunic, his silver lightsabre hung 
       at his side.

       His Jedi robe is atop the tunic.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Listen to me, droid, if you are leading 
                 me into a trap.

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 Oh no, sir!
                     (beat)
                 I am but only following Master Anakin's 
                 instructions.
                     (beat)
                 By no means am I leading you into a trap.

       OBI-WAN speaks softly.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Yeah.  Sure.  Whatever.

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 What, sir?

                           OBI-WAN
                 Nothing.

       They continue in silence.

       CLOSE UP - SEE-THREEPIO

       SEE-THREEPIO eventually speaks.

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 Sir, watch out for the loose board.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN doesn't listen to THREEPIO.

       He steps on a loose floor board and his foot falls through.

       THREEPIO turns around.

       OBI-WAN pulls his foot out of the hole in the floor plate.

       OBI-WAN looks up.

       SEE-THREEPIO enters.  OBI-WAN follows.

       The metal door slams shut.

       A rusty mechanical voice crackles.

                 Lift is off limits to all personnel.

                 Lift is no longer active.

                 I knew that this sector was ancient, but 
                 I believed that it was still operational.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

                           OBI-WAN
                 Quite.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN walks forward.  He passes the CAMERA, which rotates 
       to keep him in frame.

       OBI-WAN approaches the lift's control box.

       CLOSE SHOT - OBI-WAN'S HAND

       OBI-WAN places his hand just above the control box.

       A moment passes.

       The box sparks and smoulders.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND SEE-THREEPIO

       OBI-WAN backs away from the box.

                           MECHANICAL VOICE
                 Warning.
                     (beat)
                 All safety programs offline.

       The lift lurches down violently and then comes to brief stop.

       CLOSE UP - SEE-THREEPIO

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 Oh my!

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN is calm.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Don't worry.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND SEE-THREEPIO

       Suddenly, the lift falls straight down the shaft.  It 
       approaches terminal velocity.

       OBI-WAN and SEE-THREEPIO enter into a state of free fall.

       Obi-Wan's sabre rises from his side.

       His cloak floats.

       Then, in a single moment, the lift crashes into the ground.  
       It shakes violently and almost collapses on itself.

       INT. CAVERN - MEDIUM SHOT - OLD LIFT

       Dust fills the stale ancient air.

       The lift's door slides open unevenly.

       OBI-WAN exits.

       SEE-THREEPIO follows.

       WIDE SHOT - CAVERN

       The lift is on a small stone terrace.

       Beyond the terrace is open air.

       The cavern floor is some 300 feet below.

       The tops of ancient collapsed building reach out of the 
       shadows.

       The sheer size of the cavern cannot be described.  It 
       continues on and on farther than can be seen.

       Fiery red light rises up from spots on the unseen floor.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND SEE-THREEPIO

       OBI-WAN and SEE-THREEPIO stand at the very edge of the 
       terrace.

       We see the ancient city all around OBI-WAN and THREEPIO.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Where are we?

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 The ancient ruins.
                     (beat)
                 These ruins date back millennia.  They 
                 are from Coruscant's zeboim era.
                     (beat)
                 The people who built these cities were 
                 the original inhabitants of Coruscant.
                     (beat)
                 As they grew, they built on top of their 
                 old cities.

       WIDE SHOT - ANCIENT CITY

       The CAMERA pans across the blackened crumbling city.

       The buildings stand, twisted and macabre.

       Small pools of red radiate against them.

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 They are the ancestors of those who now 
                 call Coruscant home.
                     (beat)
                 The tradition of burying old structures 
                 and building on top of them continues to 
                 this day.
                     (beat)
                 This is Coruscant's hidden past.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN looks out at the dead city, his brow heavy.

       CLOSE UP - SEE-THREEPIO

       THREEPIO turns his head, his gears grinding.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI AND SEE-THREEPIO

                 Now where?

       OBI-WAN paces around the edge of the black terrace.

       OBI-WAN walks up to THREEPIO.

       He takes off his robe and hands it to the DROID.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

                 I'm coming back for it, understand.

       CLOSE UP - SEE-THREEPIO

                           SEE-THREEPIO
                 Yes, sir.
                     (beat)
                 I will take good care of it for you.

                 Thank you.

       OBI-WAN walks up to the terrace's edge.

       He pauses for a moment and then propels himself off.

       WIDE SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       The CAMERA is positioned far below the terrace.

       OBI-WAN starts out near the top of the screen and falls 
       toward the CAMERA, growing larger as he does.

       He drops below the CAMERA.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       The CAMERA stays with OBI-WAN as he falls.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN looks down at the ground, calm.

       MEDIUM SHOT - CAVERN FLOOR

       OBI-WAN hits the floor.

       He lands on a single foot, barely showing any signs of 
       falling 300+ feet.

       He pauses a moment, dusting off his white tunic and then jogs 
       toward the CAMERA.

       He passes it.

       The CAMERA rotates, watching him run off toward a glowing red 
       pool.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       The CAMERA stays with OBI-WAN as he jogs though the dead 
       city.

       He tries to resist looking at the ancient buildings but 
       cannot.

       His eyes are drawn to the dead civilization.

       WIDE SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       An aerial shot, OBI-WAN runs through the maze of crumbling 
       stone and rock.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN slows down, walking among the frozen city.

       He comes to a large open area.

       The CAMERA pulls back.

       We see a fiery lava pit bubbling in the center of the dead 
       city.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN looks across the fiery pit, his eyes and soul locking 
       onto something... someone.

       WIDE SHOT - LAVA PIT

       ANAKIN SKYWALKER, little more than a tiny homid silhouette, 
       stands across the pit, staring into it.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN closes his eyes and takes a slow breath.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN stands on the edge of the large lava pit.  The fire is 
       30 feet below.

       He wears a loose black suit.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       Anakin's face is illuminated red by the bubbling lava.

       ANAKIN speaks softly to himself.

                           ANAKIN
                 This is what we were and what we will 
                 become.

       The CAMERA pans down his body.  As it nears his feet, we see 
       that he is not standing on the edge of the pit.  Rather, he 
       is levitating half an inch above it, causing small pebbles 
       and clumps of dirt to levitate with him or speed away.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       Anakin's gaze rises from that of the burning red pit, sensing 
       something.  He smiles.

       His voice is twisted.

       ANAKIN speaks with a hint of mocking and immortality.

                           ANAKIN
                 You've come?

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN stands behind ANAKIN, a grave expression on his face.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Anakin, I cannot let you do this.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN says nothing, staring off across the pit.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

                           OBI-WAN
                 You are vain, Anakin.  You think that you 
                 are immortal!

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN takes a deep breath, full of sulfur, and continues to 
       stare across the pit.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

                           OBI-WAN
                 I could have pushed you in...
                     (beat)
                 I could have pushed you in before you 
                 ever sensed me...
                     (beat)
                 I could have...

       Obi-Wan's voice cracks.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN interrupts OBI-WAN.

                           ANAKIN
                 ... used a Force blast, to knock me in.

       ANAKIN pauses.

       His words are mocking.

                           ANAKIN
                 But you didn't.  Instead, you came to 
                 talk to me...
                     (beat)
                 To reason with me...
                     (beat)
                 To appeal to my senses...
                     (beat)
                 To convince me otherwise...

       ANAKIN grows darker, spitting the following words.

                           ANAKIN
                 To go back...

       ANAKIN pauses, again.

       He speaks down to OBI-WAN.

                           ANAKIN
                 I've heard everything you have to say, 
                 Old Man...
                     (beat)
                 I am not convinced...
                     (beat)
                 Your time is over...

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       Obi-Wan's left hand twitches at his side.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       Anakin's face flops to one side, as if slapped.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN is angry but tries to hide it.

                           OBI-WAN
                 I made you who you are!  Never forget 
                 that.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN smiles, a red mark across his face.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       He drops to the ground, sending out a small wave of dust and 
       wind.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN spins on his heels, turning toward OBI-WAN.

       ANAKIN laughs.

       It is now that a grand operatic theme begins.  This theme is 
       the culmination of all that has happened, is happening, and 
       will happen.  It is "Son of the Suns".

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN pulls out his lightsabre, turning it on, and raises 
       its hilt above his head, with the blade extending down to his 
       knees, in a single movement.

       The whole of his torso is guarded.  Both his hands are 
       tightly bound around its hilt.

       The blue blade hums.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN pulls his lightsabre off his belt and turns it on, 
       still at his side.

       The blade extends to just above the ground.  The sabre is 
       held loosely in just the tips of the fingers of his left 
       hand.

       OBI-WAN sighs.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN raises the blade of his sabre above his head and 
       swings it down, in a large arc.  OBI-WAN moves his lightsabre 
       up, across his chest, batting Anakin's away, still with just 
       one hand.  The sabre is an extension of his arm.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN snarls.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN forces himself upon OBI-WAN, who blocks all of his 
       thrusts.  OBI-WAN, now using both hands, advances ten feet, 
       pushing ANAKIN back.

       WIDE SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN pushes OBI-WAN back.  This dueling continues around 
       the edge of the lava pit, neither scoring a hit on the 
       opponent, each knowing the other's next move in advance.

       A jet of smoke rises up from a crack in the ground, obscuring 
       both Obi-Wan's and Anakin's vision.  Only their lightsabres 
       can be seen.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       As the smoke dissipates, ANAKIN lands a lucky shot, passing 
       just beyond Obi-Wan's left ear, singeing his hair.  OBI-WAN 
       decides that he will have to fight ANAKIN, rather than just 
       sparring with him.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN grips his lightsabre like a club and forces all his 
       weight into a slash, forcing ANAKIN to the ground, caught off 
       guard by the power of the blow.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN kneels on one knee, his lightsabre over his head, 
       tying to stop Obi-Wan's blows.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

                           OBI-WAN
                 I created you.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN lowers his lightsabre, allowing Obi-Wan's to hit the 
       ground.  ANAKIN spins around, his lightsabre ready to cut 
       into Obi-Wan's back.  OBI-WAN wheels backward, catching 
       ANAKIN's blade.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       Their eyes lock.

       Both faces are illuminated by their lightsabres, forced 
       against each other.

       ANAKIN spits on Obi-Wan's face.

       OBI-WAN lets out a heavy breath and flashes his teeth.  He 
       pushes forward, ramming his left shoulder into ANAKIN.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN falters back a few steps, releasing his lightsabre 
       from his right hand.  After taking two short breaths and 
       dodging a vertical cut from OBI-WAN, ANAKIN swings his sabre 
       over his head.  His two handed grip returns and he cuts down 
       furiously.  He then delivers two horizontal cuts, all of 
       which OBI-WAN avoids.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN snarls and thrusts his sabre out.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN knocks it aside and again runs his shoulder into 
       ANAKIN.  This time, ANAKIN comes right back.

       ANAKIN releases a fury of swipes at OBI-WAN, each of which is 
       either blocked or avoided.

       OBI-WAN forces Anakin's blade down.  He holds it there, 
       overpowering it with own sabre.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN smiles a twisted smile.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN stares at ANAKIN, unblinking.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN tries to wrestle his sabre away from Obi-Wan's.

       The two blades crackle.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN bares his teeth and growls.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN speaks in a vicious tone.

                           OBI-WAN
                 I hate you!

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN laughs.

                           ANAKIN
                 I am you!

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN breaks free.

       WIDE SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN bashes his sabre at OBI-WAN, but OBI-WAN deflects the 
       blows with masterful finesse.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       As OBI-WAN starts to advance, ANAKIN jumps into the air, 
       flipping over OBI-WAN and his horizontal cut.  OBI-WAN, 
       however, is quick.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN flips through the air, above Obi-Wan's head.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN spins around.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN lands on the other side of OBI-WAN; however, OBI-WAN 
       has spun around and is waiting for ANAKIN.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN swings his sabre back.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN cuts diagonally into Anakin's back.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN falters back, a hand over his back.

       The blow has gone straight through Anakin's suit and has 
       broken the skin.

       ANAKIN brings his hand down in front of his face.

       CLOSE SHOT - ANAKIN'S HAND

       Anakin's hand is red, covered in his own blood.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN stares down, breathing quickly, hyping himself up into 
       a higher frenzy.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN charges at OBI-WAN, his sabre waving like a bat.

       OBI-WAN catches it.  The two lock together, trying to force 
       the other down.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN pants.

                           ANAKIN
                 You... are... dead... Kenobi...

       Obi-Wan's only answer is a stern glare.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN jumps back, sending Anakin's blade into the ground.  
       ANAKIN brings it up and swings it forward.  OBI-WAN takes 
       another jump back.

       Their sabres clash.

       ANAKIN screams and overpowers OBI-WAN.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       ANAKIN then whips OBI-WAN in the face with the butt of his 
       sabre.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN quickly recovers and brings his sabre up, blocking a 
       downward blow coming from ANAKIN.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       The two breath heavily.  They stand, feet apart, waiting for 
       the other to make the next move.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN shows his teeth, angry.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN shows a cautious and tired look.  He bites his lip.

       OBI-WAN speaks.  His words are questioning but compassionate.

                           OBI-WAN
                 Anakin, tell me something.  What are you 
                 going to do after you defeat me?  Hmmm?
                     (beat)
                 What?
                     (beat)
                 Who's the next you're going to slaughter?

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN is unfazed by OBI-WAN's questioning.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN speaks loudly.

                           OBI-WAN
                 ...Amidala?

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN is visibly shaken by this.  His eyes loose the savage 
       hostility found there moments prior as he remembers all that 
       that name is connected to.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN takes a quick breath and shakes any final regrets.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       This was all that OBI-WAN needed.  As ANAKIN remembers, OBI-
       WAN swings his sabre.

       CLOSE SHOT - ANAKIN'S HAND

       OBI-WAN severs Anakin's right arm and sabre with it.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN is violently shaken from his mind.  The pain of a 
       phantom arm causes him to cry out.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       After viewing the bloody stump, he flashes his eyes upward 
       toward OBI-WAN.  ANAKIN is in pain, no longer wanting this 
       battle.  It can be seen in his eyes.  He is afraid.

       CLOSE UP - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN, however, is full of rage.

       MEDIUM SHOT - OBI-WAN KENOBI

       He extends his left hand, sending out a Force blast.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN is knocked back.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN swings his sabre, catching the bleeding ANAKIN 
       several times.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       ANAKIN is now crying out.

       MEDIUM SHOT - ANAKIN SKYWALKER AND OBI-WAN KENOBI

       OBI-WAN swings his sabre like a bat, diagonally down across 
       ANAKIN, who narrowly avoids it.  OBI-WAN quickly swings his 
       left arm.

       CLOSE UP - ANAKIN SKYWALKER

       OBI-WAN hits ANAKIN across the jar with his forearm.
