Vampire Hunter D OST (Import)
Released in 1985, this CD is a piece of history, almost as old as I am. It is a crude disc, the technology still in its infancy when released.
Still, its tracks play crystal clear with a depth and fullness that will shake you.
"Vampire Hunter D" stands alongside "Mononoke Hime" and "Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise". Its score, majestic, is an integral part in its overall story.
The first half of the disc contains creepy atmospherics that make the ambient BGM from "Resident Evil" look tame.
The second half of the CD contains the instrumental themes. Done on a keyboard with synth instruments, there is a powerful similarity to Chris Franke's B5 work... especially the his early stuff.
D's theme is an innocent synth harp and keyboard piece with the lightest militaristic drum woven into the notes, hidden.
D's theme is reverberated, a recurring motif throughout most of the instrumentals. Its notes are played fast and slow, hard and soft, mournful and victorious.
"Vampire Hunter D" was released in 1985, but it is not buried and dead. It still stirs the same fire and emotion today as it did so long ago.
Its notes still play with the same depth and fullness, pulling the same feelings from your heart.
