Various Artists --- Go Simpsonic With The Simpsons!
The first Simpsons Rhino CD (I don't count those
abomidible Geffen "concept" records) is one of those
things you just play over and over again. Everyone I
know had at least a dub of it. Just a great CD, down
to the donut-painted disc itself.
It was with much eagerness I bought "Go
Simpsonic", released over a year later than it was
supposed to be. But it was oh-so-worth the wait.
I would venture to say I actually like this more
than the first one. It has songs that were both too
recent for the first CD ("We Put The Spring In
Springfield", "The Simpsons Family Smile-Time Variety
Fun Hour", "Canyonero!") and pieces that had been
over-looked ("Poochie Rap", "Kamp Krusty", "The Gabbo
Song"). This CD really lets you appreciate the
nuances of the tunes on the show. Most notably, the
James Bond-style closing song to the Hank Scorpio
episode: An over-emoting, Streisand-like vocalist
extolling the virtures of working for Mr. Scorpio,
noting the availible of microbrews, and closing the
song with "He loves german beer!"
Personal favorites on the CD include the Cletus
The Slack-Jawed Yokel theme song, the Sonic Youth
closing credits, and Meet The Flintstones. The most
glaring omission, though, is the lack of Professor
Frink's theme song (you know the one --- "Professor
Frink!/Professor Frink!/He'll make you laugh/He'll
make you think/with the thing/and the...thing")
Overall, the CD is essential to any Simpsons fan.
