Austin Powers2: The Spy Who Shagged Me
I spent my flu-filled day watching this delicious
disc. Chock-full of extras, adding much to an already
hilarious film.
The commentary (by Meyers, director Jay Roach and
a co-writer who's name I forget) is pretty basic
stuff, and not as chock-full of verbal barbs as one
would expect from those three. IT's interesting, but
too much time is spent talking about the dance
sequences and such.
Deleted scenes are nice on any DVD, and this is
full of 'em. If you remember the original VHS release
of Austin Powers, seven deleted scenes were tacked
onto the end. This time, we are presented 20,
count'em, 20 lost scenes. They fluctuate wildly in
terms of quality, but one of the best sequences on the
entire disc is the lost scene of Dr Evil's monolog on
Jerry Springer, which is just priceless.
Trailers, a Behind-The-Scenes documentary and
three music videos are present, too, including one
trailer from the original movie.
There's a great Easter Egg in the form of a
hidden Dr Evil menu. If you wait a full minute at the
Special Features selection screen, Austin Powers
disappears and an egg-rocket appears. You are
presented with two more selections: "The Dr. Evil
Story" and "Evil Music Videos". The Evil Music videos
are the clips of "Just Tue Two Of Us" and "One of Us"
as performed by Dr Evil in the movie. "The Dr Evil
Story" is from a Comedy Central special. It's a
half-hour long "Spyogrpahy", in the style of A&E's
"Biography". Really hysterical material, and very
thorough in it's satire of Biography.
If you have a DVD-ROM, there are even more
extras, like a trivia game, a special browser, and
exclusive sections of the website. But I choose not
to follow the evil empire of IBM, and I sit here
proudly with an Apple. I've got a dedicated GE DVD
player for my television, thank you very much, as I
prefer to watch movies on anything other than a
computer monitor.
Very worth your money.
