Kid Rock --- Devil Without a Cause
This disc is an enticing stew of old-school hip-hop, classic metal, and
good old fashioned balls-out machismo. It may not be the deepest stuff in
the world (except the stellar "Only God Knows Why" which could easily pass
for classic Lynyrd Skynyrd) but it makes for excellent party music both
because of its exuberant "get down or go home" attitude and the excellent
band which backs Kid's slick rhymes. Most people can sing along with any of
the four singles (Bawitdaba, Cowboy, I Am The Bullgod, and Only God Knows
Why) and the rest of the record is equally catchy, if a bit too vulgar for
regular radio airplay. An excellent album, I expect to see Kid Rock go
nowhere but up, so watch for his next release which will feature Kid rapping
over a scratched up version of Sad But True which impressed even Metallica
drummer Lars Ulrich.
