Lovesick Lipservice --- Connie Acher

Ah, it is finally time to write the record review I've waited one full year to write.

"Lovesick Lipservice" is a great fucking record. GREAT. I don't mean 'great' in my normal use of the word as an adjective. I mean that it's one of those Great Independent Records, one of those records that is near-perfect and will be absolutely cherished by a select few. At least for now. I am absolutely sure that someday, somewhere, this record will get the recognition it so rightfully deserves.

Connie's voice is enchanting, her composition totally original. This record makes you thank God for affordable four-track tape decks. The songs all show real care in the way they were put together, and the record sounds like craft and time went into each of them. The recording lends a definite sense of intimacy, too, as if this was almost never really meant for an audience.

The songs each have their own identity, from the perfect pop of "Spare Time" and "I Miss You Already" to the almost blues-singer vibe of "Shit In My Room" to the distorted grind of "Primer". The record starts off with some weirder, overdub-fuckery-type tracks, and moves into poppier territory by the end.

The cover and back art is very nice, too. I have grown to love paste-on covers, too.

This review may sound a tad gushing, but I just can't recommend "Lovesick Lipservice" enough. Go buy it or you'll be missing something extraordinary. Can't wait for the next one. Which also sounds extraordinary. (Flipped Out Records, PO Box 2308, Albany NY 12220, http://www.global2000.net/flippedoutrecords/index.shtml )
