ReBoot

99 times out of 100, a game translation of the television show or film will not be accurate. It will fall though, take liberties, or just make stuff up.

ReBoot is that 100th game.

ReBoot is the game that gets it all right.

It stays true to the Mainframe series and captures its essence.

Mainframe wrote a script and rendered original cut scenes for the game.

"Episode Zero" is a prequel to the CG series. The game follows Bob's first adventure after only recently being downloaded into Mainframe.

It explores the characters and actually reveals things. We see the birth of Hack, Slash, and Scuzzy.

We also see a pup Frisket.

As I've said, it captures the essence of the series perfectly.

What really separates it from just about every other 3rd person game is the zipboard. The game's zipboards operate like high octane skateboards, allowing you to bounce and ricochet off of walls and ramps. Jumping with a zipboard is an amazing experience. If you catch enough air, Bob'll even perform a few tricks. And, don't worry about falling, 'cause you won't take damage no matter how high up you are. Yes, you heard me right. No matter how high up you are, you don't take damage. That really adds to the fun factor.

Also, the zipboard cannot stay still. It's always moving. It is one of the key factors in the game's perfect translation. It captures Bob's energetic attitude and downloads it into the user.

Simple things like going up steps can be tricky, but you'll manage to pull through. When you look at it, it makes the game far more challenging and fun. I mean, you are Bob. I'm not talking just physically. Mentally and emotionally, you are also one with everybody's favorite Guardian. You'll rush head-long into danger and shoot first, ask questions later... Just like Bob!

Now, you might point out that the zipboard movement isn't true to the series. That is correct, but you can change it so that the zipboard operates as it does in the series. Simply put, you can go ANYWHERE. This does, however, cause it to loose some of its fun. You have to sacrifice all the wall ricocheting and jumps to fly anywhere. In the end, the free roaming flight capable zipboard, true to the series, has more pluses than minuses, but both modes are fun.

A second aspect that really makes you feel as if you are in Mainframe is the music. Ninety percent of the time, you'll be listening to the extended version of the ReBoot main theme. It doesn't get tiring, but adds to the adrenaline. Again, you are Bob. The music only adds to the feeling of being in Mainframe.

I cannot reiterate it enough. Mainframe and Bob are captured perfectly. This is the best game translation ever made.

From mending tears to fighting viruses, the spirit of Mainframe and Bob are captured perfectly.

For those who aren't fans of ReBoot, the game is a unique and one-of-a-kind action adventure. For fans of the series, this is an integral, MUST HAVE item that takes the show to new levels.

We all know that Bob lives in your computer, but now, he can live in you PSX.

The Mend and Defend.
