BattleBots
Long ago, the Discovery Channel aired a short piece about the BattleBots competition, a game in which individuals and institutions construct robots to beat the robo-crap out of each other. How could you not love it?
Comedy Central's new season includes the BattleBots competition, standardized into a series. I'm not a big sports fan. I like hockey, but that's about it. BattleBots is organized into a sporting event. I may not be too close a follower of human sports, but I will be a cheering fan for robo-sports.
BattleBots is akin to the Colosseum of ancient Rome. Gladiators of metal and glass replace those of flesh and blood. Instead of sword and shield, these new contenders bear buzz saw and pick axe.
It is violent. It is raw. It is the best and worst of humanity. Pitted against each other are the most advanced examples of robotics, locked in bitter combat. You cannot help but cheer as a whirling blade tears through wire and maims a machine.
I urge you to take in a show of BattleBots on Comedy Central, the leader in robotic sports.
